Hi there,
My name is Finn (short for Finnagen). I’ve set up this go fund me page to help my Mum, Amber.
mum has never met her father, my grandfather. She believed him lost. Her mum (my grandmother) said that her dad was overseas. Ever since she has found out that she did not have a dad when she was 16; she has been searching. She found out that he was alive earlier this year when she had a DNA test and found a ‘search angel’ who conducted an international search for her, the search angel finally found a man who matched the search name and Date of birth which matched. A dream came true the day that he said that yes, he did know her mother (my grandmother) 50 years ago in America. They are getting to know each other on facebook and talking via telephone. He has a whole other family in the United States – My mum’s brothers and sisters (my Aunts and Uncles), her nieces and nephews (my cousins). (Note- mum would like to include that she has been looking for her dad since she was 16).
My grandfather is also not getting any younger. I want more than anything for my wonderful mum to be able to meet her dad for the first time in her life and give him a big hug! (My Mum gives the best hugs!) I’m crying even writing this!
My mother grew up with just her mum taking care of her and her brothers. She never had someone to call dad. She was heartbroken that she wasn't meant to have a dad as part of her growing up. Mum had no way of finding him even though many searches were made in different ways through her life.
My mum has faced many struggles and abusive situations that are too personal for her to mention here. If you know her, you already know the many struggles that she has faced and overcome. They have indeed made her the sweetest, kindest and most generous person you could imagine! She gives so much of herself to others. She does so much for other people! She has raised her own children with the love and care and sense of belonging that was missing from her own childhood. She has made sure that we had a much better life than she had.
mum met dad and fell in love! mum and dad have given up so much to raise me and my siblings. They are wonderful, kind, caring loving people. We are the kind of family where we say “I love you” to each other every day and we hug each other hello and good bye. We text each other during the day to keep in touch because we genuinely enjoy each other’s company and love one another as people – not just relatives. We are so much more than that! mum and dad work so hard and they love us all so much. While we have struggled financially most of my life, they have always made sure that we have a roof over our heads and food in our tummies and that we know that we are loved. We know that we are their highest priority.
I want my mum to have a chance to build the kind of relationship that I have with her and dad, with her own father. I want to help her be able to call someone “dad” for the first time in her life. I want her to be able to sit down with him and see if they have the same laugh, if they wiggle their eyebrows in the same way, if he has the same weird toes that she has. I want her to feel that sense of self, of seeing where she fits with her siblings and of the same belonging that I feel with my siblings and my parents. She and I are so similar, we have the same giggle and the same mannerisms – I want her to be able to see how she is the same and how she is different to her brothers and sisters and her dad.
Mum doesn’t have long to build this relationship with her family, she wants simply to belong and get to know these family members who are an integral part of her life and her being alive. That’s why I am asking for your help. If you had never had a chance to meet your Dad and you suddenly became aware that he was alive and on the other side of the world and wanted him to be a part of your life – wouldn’t you want to give everything to go and meet him?
