Help Mutts Coffee Open their First Coffeshop

Hi, we are Mark, Jaclyn, and our dog Pokey, and we are Mutts Coffee - a Portland, Oregon-based coffee roaster that features rescue dogs on our coffee bags and donates a portion of our profits to our dog rescue partners.

We started our company at the end of 2020 and spent our first year of business at Farmer's Markets, selling coffee and earning money for our rescue partners. In 2022, we made the decision to sign a lease on a commercial space in downtown Beaverton, Oregon and were awarded a tenant improvement grant through the city of Beaverton to help cover the buildout costs and to ensure our space is fully up to code and ADA compliant. As a new business, we aren't eligible for many of the more traditional funding options so this grant opportunity has been life-changing for us!

Construction has already started on our space and we hope to be ready to open here in the next month or so. We still are in need of some restaurant equipment and are raising funds to help us get over the last hurdle needed before we can finally open our doors and serve our community! All funds raised will go to making the final purchases necessary to open a fully operational coffeeshop.

Here is what Mark is offering:

Coffee cupping and brewing class. A guided comparative tasting of several coffees from around the world, mixed with some history and perspective on different growing regions and how those nuances are reflected in the roast. Followed by a tutorial of popular brewing methods and best practices for achieving the perfect cup at home every time.

Barista 101, I’ve literally trained thousands of baristas, find out how our techniques have changed and improved since the year 2000. Class will include all the skills needed to properly dial-in an espresso extraction, steam perfect milk, and how to assemble those components to make cafe quality espresso beverages.

Roasting 101. Learn the basics of roasting green coffee. Working with a gas fired roaster you’ll learn how to operate the equipment, test for quality, and how to build a roast profile that suits the coffee we’ll be working with (choose from any of the green coffees we have in stock at that time). Take home as much coffee as you are comfortable sharing/consuming.
