We are Team MUSHOOR from Nepal. We are using mushrooms to bring about a change in the lives of unemployed women in Nepal, where a staggering population - more than 50% women of the working-age group are unemployed. Most are involved in household chores, and since it doesn’t directly translate to monetary terms, they have to depend on their male counterparts to make their financial decisions. This not only inhibits the development of the female population but also increases societal inequality. And this problem isn’t limited to Nepal, extending well beyond its borders, to different countries in South Asia.
In order to address this problem Team MUSHOOR is on a mission to promote home entrepreneurship with the participation of our “Aamas”, “Didis” and “Bahinis”. We build and offer an ecosystem of affordable Mushoor Home Harvest Systems through local “Aama Samuhas''(Mother Groups) or cooperatives using an EMI plan to enable them to make a steady income all year round. Using our system, our “Aamas”(Mothers) can produce mushrooms, consume them and sell them directly to us or in the local market. The system is easy to use and will require no particular skill set. It’s climate control will enable them to produce mushrooms throughout the year and earn money from surplus.
Who are we?
We are a young team passionate about solving the problems that exist around us. We encourage everyone to look at problems as opportunities. We are using mushrooms to solve the housewives' and individuals' problems by enabling them to make money from surplus and also providing them accessible and affordable nutrition in Nepal. With this idea, Team Mushoor has been selected as one of the Top 42 teams from above 25000 teams worldwide in the international Hult Prize Competition. Until now, we had been managing the competition expenses on our own. However, with the accelerator for the next phase and the semi-finals being held at Hertfordshire, England from August 8 - September 12, 2021, we seek financial assistance in making our journey possible.
We seek your help to cover the following expenses:
Government allocated institutional quarantine: £1750 + (£1750+£650) + £1750 = £5900 (Our team consists of 3 Boys and 1 Girl. So, we will need at least 3 rooms for 10 days)
Visa Cost: £95*4 = £380
Flight Cost: £3050 (this is an estimate as of 29th june Qatar Airways price)
PCR testing: 4*£150 = £600
Total Estimated Cost : £5900 + £380 + £3050 + £600 = £9930 = $13770
Why support us?
Mushoor is a team of young changemakers passionate about changing the consumption pattern globally while also taking a step forward in reducing societal inequity, enabling access to nutrition in the table, empowering housewives to become financially independent, and enhancing nutritional literacy. We already have a fully-functional prototype ready to potentially impact over a million lives in the next 10 years while also empowering over 10,000 individuals in the process.
Your support means a forward step in reducing societal inequity. It means enabling access to vital nutrition in the table of an average Nepali. It means empowering housewives to make their own decisions in life and enhancing nutritional literacy in Nepali society.
With your support, we can take a very important step in making this vision a reality.
