Help Munduk and it's guiding community

Nestled in the mountains of Northern Bali is the lovely little village of Munduk and its nature preserve, now left in disarray and struggling to survive these trying times.

Imagine you are with me. We stand ankle deep in the water at the base of the 3rd waterfall. The water roars as it gushes over the edge and drops 15 meters to the pool below. The breeze carries the cold mist from the base of the falls, it cools the skin of your face and arms as it drifts over them. There is a beautiful moment of stillness, but then we look around…
Where is everyone? Where are the charming local guides eager to answer all our questions about the waterfalls, the land, the village, and their beautiful Balinese culture? Where are the smiling faces extending a helping hand to us when climbing the steep stairs up the path? We can see the remains of a cute little Warung (a local restaurant/café) empty, dilapidated, literally falling apart. Where are the sweet women, with kind brown eyes, offering all our favorite local dishes, a local coffee, or a nice cup of tea?
As we walk back toward the village, the path is overgrown. The bamboo bridges are rickety and weak, we must walk one at a time over them and even then they do not feel safe. In the village we see no tourists. The restaurants are empty. The local economy has crumbled.
70% of Munduk Village lived off of the tourism industry that once flourished here. Approximately 200 local guides have been completely out of work in the last year. That doesn’t just represent 200 men, but 200 local families, men, women, and children that have lost the majority of if not 100% of their income. This group of guides are the stewards of the nature preserve. They clean and maintain the waterfalls and trails. They pool together their profits as a community to build and maintain the bridges and walking paths. There is, however, no possibility for this, at the present moment, as they are spending every penny they have and every moment of free time just trying to feed themselves and their children.
We have started this GoFundMe to raise money for the village of Munduk and the beautiful families that are struggling to survive. Your donations will go to feeding these families, as well as to fund the rebuilding and maintenance of the bridges, paths, and infrastructure that support their tourism economy. A donation of $15 can feed a whole family for a week, and it will cost about $5000 for the rebuilding and maintenance of the infrastructures. The new bamboo bridges will last 2-3 years and will not only help the village to welcome the local communities to visit the sacred valley, but to be ready when tourism picks back up and will gift these out of work men a sense of purpose and achievement taking care of the land they love so much. We are setting a goal of $20 000, this will give several weeks of food and relief to the village and cashflow for the rebuilding projects.
If you have ever been to Bali, plan to come, or even live here presently, you should know the importance and the beauty of Munduk and its waterfalls. We are presenting you with an opportunity to show your support and generosity, to not only the local village, but the land, to Mama Bali and the entire Balinese culture. An Island and a culture that has shown us nothing but kindness and generosity. A donation of even $5-10 will be a worthwhile venture and will be accepted with gratitude and love from the families that you are so kindly helping. We will be posting updates and photos, so you can see exactly how great of an impact your generosity is making.

This fundraiser is from the team of Ekommunity and a group of Munduk guides.

Thank you in advance, terima kasih & suksma!
