Help Mukhtar & family of Kabul resettle in Canada

Mukhtar Amiri and his young family have arrived in Canada after a harrowing escape from Afghanistan. Mukhtar was the news assistant to The Globe and Mail's Afghanistan correspondent, Susan Sachs, and subsequently for The Guardian correspondent Emma Graham-Harrison. The family was at high risk after the Taliban takeover. So many times, the many people who mobilized to save them --- first, getting them out of their house and into a safe location in Kabul, then arranging a way to get them out of Afghanistan in one piece, and finally supporting them as they waited in Pakistan for word on their immigration application to Canada -- feared the mission would fail. But thanks to the resourcefulness and tireless efforts of a group of journalists, and with institutional support from The Globe and expeditious handling of their case by the Canadian government, the family managed to escape. Now, the Amiris are starting new lives in Canada, and they are already grateful beyond words for the welcome. But, like all refugees who embark on these courageous journeys, they arrived on the cusp of winter in Toronto with almost nothing. They will need money to supplement government assistance for shelter, furniture, food, clothing, transportation, school supplies and a myriad of other living costs. Mukhtar and his wife have six children under the age of 11, the youngest being just four months old. They are so eager to learn, so excited to adapt.
