Help MTB guide Juan Carlos become a Chicken farmer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Juan Carlos Salazar  You may know me as "JC", "El Chato", or just "Juanca".

I've been working as a guide for nearly 20 years and thanks to Amazonas Explorer,  I discovered how fantastic, great and rich  is my country with culture, traditions, etc.

Now I have my family so all the money I make working in tourism goes into our small house I share with my wife and 2 children.

But with this pandemic, my life has turned 180 degrees, I have no work as a guide and I need to rethink my career.

As a hobby we have always raised guinea pigs to improve the diet of my children and also chickens for the eggs, and meat that is very delicious when home grown.

Thanks to the guinea pigs, hens and the eggs, I started to support my family selling and delivering on my bike - using a  bike is the best way to protect myself and to not use local transport but it is hard work as I live 30 minutes out of Cusco city. So I'm super fit right now!

To grow my new business, I am trying to raise $2000 (£1600)  to help me increase my farms capacity, source food  for my animals and also expand my offerings by bringing delicious cheese from Anta and avocados from Limatambo to sell in Cusco city.

I have also taken over running a piece of land belonging to my boss, Paul Cripps, up above Lake Huaypo where we are planning to plant Tarwi which is a type of lupin grown in the Andes, mainly for its edible and highly nutritious beans. I need funds to help me plough the land with a bull and to buy the seed and organic fertiliser to help it grow. This crop which should be ready early next year,  I will sell in Cusco city.

Anything you can give to help me realise my dream and support my family with this new venture, I will be most grateful and when the time comes for you to visit Machu Picchu, you will all be welcome in my house to taste the best eggs and guinea pigs in the region.

The most important thing now is never to lose the magical word "HOPE" and to stay safe and and enjoy life as family together

All the best for you my friends

Juan Carlos Salazar

How it works:

I, Paul Cripps, owner of Amazonas Explorer have agreed to help set up these Gofundme crowdfunding pages for my guides who are struggling to make ends meet whilst the tourism industry implodes in Peru. We hope it will be back one day soon, but for now, they need to reinvent themselves in order to feed their families.

The funds will be collected here in the UK into my account and then I will pay the exact equivalent in Peruvian soles from my Peruvian account into their personal accounts to minimise bank transfer fees and exchange rate fluctuations.

I will also personally contribute the first $150 of each proposal to help them get started. This will be donated directly into their accounts to avoid charges.

Our guides provide a big part of the magic of any trip to Peru and it is their personal touches, professionalism, wit and charm that makes each trip they guide unforgettable.

So,  if you enjoyed your trip to Peru with one of our guides, please give what you can.

I know times are difficult everywhere but these guides are true heroes, their projects are borne out a desire to survive this pandemic and come out the other side better for the experience.

If you can't donate, please share and spread the word to help them achieve their goals.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you so much for anything you can do.
