In the beginning of my career as a teacher, I paid for the school supplies that my students would use all by myself. It was tough to fund this, and as the years went on it got more and more challenging. A few years ago, I decided to make a GoFundMe and it turns out that sometimes you don't need to do things alone - there were incredibly kind people out there who helped me lift this burden and ensure that my students were provided a great place to learn.
Last year we raised over $500! Thank you to those of you who donated! You helped me, and my 24-25 class, get through a particularly difficult year.
I've always wanted to be a teacher. Every assignment I ever turned in, every essay I wrote, and every sleepless night I spent working night shift at my care home job was in an effort to achieve that singular goal. Every day I get to live my dream and provide for my students the kind of adult I needed as a kid.
All donations will go towards:
- Classroom Notebooks: We write a lot in my class and keep these notebooks in the classroom.
- Tissue Boxes: Kids will often need to go to the bathroom in order to blow their nose, if the tissue boxes are in class then they will lose no class time!
- Granola Bars & Apple Sauce: Not every kid has a stable home life, and it's hard to learn when you are hungry. These snacks are given to kids who disclose that they are food insecure - and helps keep their energy up to learn.
- Pencils: Not every student is lucky enough to have parents that remember to get them the essentials.
- Personal, Hand Made Awards: During certain activities, I reward students with a personal award that has their name on it - it is given to students who are leaders in the classroom.
- Personal Hygiene Items: These items are discreetly provided to students who ask for them.
- Silent Reading Books: Many of the books in my class are purchased based on student request. They will often read a book and ask for the sequel - or if there are any other books like this. Reading for pleasure is a key to critical thinking!
