Buddy’s Story
————————————————
Mr. Buddy came into my life rather unexpectedly. He was abandoned with a huge pile of kibble at a local park. He was in a severe state of neglect, severely dehydrated, filthy and covered with matted hair and flea eggs. He had sad eyes and severe anxiety. Little did I know what this mess of a dog would mean for my life. I’d lost my dogs over the past few years and vowed not to replace them. I couldn’t see owning another dog. So, I started dog-sitting to fill the void. Then, there was Buddy!

Buddy must have been heaven sent, because we needed each other terribly. I got him cleaned up and checked out, he’s got some major health concerns such as diabetes and some tumors. We are working hard on getting the diabetes managed. It’s a process of slowly incrementing the insulin doses. In that process, Buddy developed cataracts over night. It’s been very difficult to adjust for us both, but we’ve been trying. He gets lost in the back yard, he’s fallen down steps, running into furniture or sticks and weeds that hurt and scratch his eyes. He’s been very lethargic and depressed. The vet tells me we will get his diabetes managed and the tumors are fatty but abscessed and the large one needs removal. We believe him to be about 9 years old. He could easily live 5-6 more years.

I’ve decided since there is a solution, that Buddy deserves to see after all the other hell he’s lived through. I can’t stand to see him quietly miserable. He’s got such a good heart, soul and spirit. I don’t want his memories of what the park looks like to fade, I don’t want him to live in darkness. We are looking at around 5k for his surgeries and vet bills. I can’t do it alone, so I’m asking for your help.

Buddy has made a lot of people smile, he’s just a wonderful dog. Whoever neglected him and dumped him off had no idea what they lost. I’m so glad he came into my life, and has already touched the lives of so many others with his story.

Buddy and I will be eternally grateful for your kind donation in helping Buddy live in the light again. Please share Buddy’s story, and thank you for being part of our journey!

UPDATE: For those following the updates, you will know funds from the cataract surgery were diverted into more pressing issues we hoped would proceed cataract surgery. We had a mass removed with the vet felt was a lipoma at the time but it turned out to be Stage 3 Mast Cell cancer. His diabetes was so hard to manage, now we know cancer has been interfering. This has caused numerous vet visits and more expenses visiting specialists, and now we have determined he’s a poor candidate for cataract surgery. His cancer is terminal, so we are treating that instead with steroids, as well as several other drugs to manage symptoms that come along with tumor growth. The cancer is the aggressive kind which is now in his lymphatic system, however he can still have some time and quality of life going forward as long as we can until the tumor causes problems with blood supply, as they ultimately do. As long as he’s not sick for extended periods and we are having fun, we will do keep filling his bucket list.

Your kind donations will go towards continuing cancer care and regular vet visits for glucose checks and diabetes management, prescription food and drugs, and fun for his bucket list! Thank you all for being a part of this special dog’s life! It’s truly been a wonderful thing to share him with you!
