Help Move Our Climbing Tree!

At River Song Waldorf School, children are able to freely explore the natural world around them in creative and adventurous ways.  We are a mixed age preschool, ranging from 2 1/2 to 5 years old, which allows for the younger ones to look up to our older children, also known as the "elders" of our school.

We believe in allowing children to do things on their own, like climb trees, to foster self-confidence and independence during early childhood.  The climbing tree in our backyard is a staple of our school, and has been a rite of passage for many children that have come through River Song.

As a two year old, they look up into the tree and watch the older children pull themselves up, hanging from branches, being fed invisible bananas from their teachers.  It is not until they grow bigger and stronger, after trying with all their might over and over again, that the child climbs up & looks out over everything! Here, in the climbing tree, children feel empowered by knowing they can do anything they put their mind to!

River Song is moving right down the street (2 houses down, as a matter of fact!), and sadly there are no trees for the children to climb at our new school!  We had the thought, "Why not just take the tree with us?"  After speaking with the local tree moving service, we realized this mission would only be possible with support from the community.  That's why we decided to launch the "Help Us Move Our Climbing Tree!" campaign.  With your help, we can bring the River Song staple, our beloved climbing tree, with us on our journey to the new school!
