Help More MD Dreamers Renew DACA

Following the September 5, 2017 announcement from the Trump Administration that it was ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — also called DACA several states, universities, NGOs and others filed lawsuits challenging the legality of the DACA rescission. The plaintiffs in Regents of the University of California V. DHS are asking the court to declare that the DHS rescission memo is unlawful and to stop any implementation of the DACA termination from going forward.

On January 10, 2018 a federal judge in the Northern District of California ordered a nationwide preliminary injunction – a temporary order that remains in place for the duration of the lawsuit unless it is overturned by a higher court – halting the termination of the DACA program. The lawsuit challenges the government’s termination of DACA. The order temporarily stops the termination of the DACA program and directs USCIS to resume accepting certain DACA applications.

The preliminary injunction will remain in place while the litigation continues unless the Department of Justice (DOJ) successfully challenges the order. On January 16, 2018, the DOJ filed notice that it would appeal the decision to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and announced it will also request that the United States Supreme Court review the injunction on its merits.

Due to the uncertainty of how long the injunction will remain in place DREAMERs that are able to renew their DACA should do so as soon as possible.

The mandatory and non-waivable DACA renewal fee is $495.  This fee can present a hardship for some families, and if they are not able to come up with the amount in the next few weeks, their DACA status or that of their children could expire within the next few months, leaving them vulnerable to deportation and without work authorization, meaning that they will return to living in fear and in the shadows.

If you are outraged by Trump’s decision to end DACA, this is an immediate and critical way you can show support to your immigrant friends and neighbors.  Please support our efforts and make a donation to this campaign.  We are setting the goal at $2,000 but we hope to raise much more than that - $2000 is enough to help 4 DREAMERS renew their DACA, so we are optimistic that we will far exceed this goal and help more DREAMERS.
