Update: Jazzy is still recovering and has no home to go home to. Jazmyne suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken pelvis, ribs and other injuries in a car accident while traveling from Oklahoma before Thanksgiving. (See the initial post below) Her siblings and father were able to return to Tulare, CA to stay with their aunt. The extent of her injuries, the complications of insurance and the need for other surgeries in the coming months have posed another giant hurdle to recovery. The family must stay in California for the foreseeable future and they have no place to live. We need help funding some routine expenses, travel, medical equipment and most importantly, a place for Jazmyne's family to live.
Her mother, Angel, has been at her bedside for over a month. Angel has not slept outside of a hospital since the accident. This is what any mother would do and especially, this mother. During that time, Jazmyne has had seizures, strokes, infections and has now had a craniotomy. A small portion of her skull was removed to accommodate the swelling of her brain, remove a large clot from the brain hemorrhage and alleviate the effects of the swelling.
The good news is that Jazzy has been stabilized, she has been transferred from Loma Linda to a children's rehabilitation center and she is awake! After weeks of unconsciousness and worry, Jazzy woke up and slowly began speaking! She has a long way to go and will have to have that portion of her skull replaced in the coming months. She is non-weight bearing for three months while her pelvis heals and insurance will only cover a few more months of rehab.

Bubba and Jazzy remained in ICU, Bubba slowly recovering and getting up with therapy. Jazzy remained unresponsive for days and on a ventilator. Bubba progressed enough to be discharged, good news! But, during a pandemic, this means that only one parent is now allowed to stay in the hospital with Jazzy. Mom, Angel, is now all alone at the bedside with Dad and the other children hundreds of miles away staying with family and recovering.
Jazzy had some steady gains, she began moving her hands and feet, opening one eye and could give a thumbs up on command. She began spiking fevers over the weekend and has a definite infection. Having had chest tubes, a broken pelvis that was surgically repaired, broken collarbone and ribs, there was a potential for infection. She began having seizures today and has been intubated and taken back to ICU.
It has been unbearably difficult for Angel to watch her first child struggle to recover, without anyone by her side to comfort her, listen to doctors or allow her to leave the bedside for a moment. The family was so far from home, lost all of their clothing and belongings and there is no possibility of earning any income while in this situation.
At this time, we are asking for donations to help with transportation, living expenses, food, and clothing for the family. For a family living on humble means to begin with, this has been devastating. Please help give mom and dad the means to be by their child's side, together and alleviate the worry of cell phones being shut off and feeding the children while they are so far from home and depending on family and friends while they recover. Every small donation will help. And please, keep the prayers coming.
The family would like to thank those who have already offered assistance. Her sister, Nina, has been travelling two hours to the hospital to bring supplies and offer comfort. She took the two children home with her when they were first discharged. James' sister, Cindy has donated money and has taken him and the children in to her home in Tulare. Thank you to everyone who has said a prayer and have reached out to comfort the family.
