Help Mom & Small-Business Owner with COVID Battle

Overtime Sports Bar and Grill is a family owned and operated small business in Colorado Springs. Family includes the owners - Lori and Dan Prellberg - their children Daniel Scott, Matt, and Bucky, the entire staff, and the many loyal customers they have welcomed throughout the years. Lori and Dan have put their hearts and souls into making their business a gathering place for family, friends, and fun. Through their hard work and positivity, Overtime is truly a place “where everybody knows your name”.
-OUR EXPERIENCE WITH COVID-19
As a small business, COVID-19 has presented Overtime with many challenges. Lori, Dan, and their incredible staff have done everything they needed to keep Overtime safe and open, including creating safety rules and measures that go beyond what is suggested and required by the CDC and local government. Overtime was able to receive some PPP loan money to keep its staff employed through the summer and make necessary safety renovations.
Even with the help of the PPP loan, Lori and Dan put all of the business’s reserves and their personal funds into helping Overtime become a safer place for the community, and to keep it afloat during the ever-changing rules for businesses. Overtime was even celebrated by a local news station for its many safety precautions and being a great place to gather to watch a game and still feel safe.
-UNEXPECTED EMERGENCIES
Even with careful precautions in place, Overtime, and the Prellbergs, have not been able to remain untouched by the pandemic.
Lori is the heart and soul of Overtime, and you can find her working at least six days a week. Most days she is behind the bar herself welcoming everyone who walks through the door into her second-home. Her smile and positive attitude endear her to all who know her. Unfortunately, she has become very ill from this virus and has been in the hospital under intensive care for over a month in critical condition. It is impossible to predict how her body will continue to respond to this virus, but she is getting the best care possible. Everyone is praying for her recovery, but it is still unsure what her future holds at this time. She means so much to the life and energy of Overtime and her absence has definitely been felt.
As for her business and extended family, multiple staff members at Overtime also tested positive, and the business was closed for two weeks for staff recovery and deep-cleaning. We are blessed that our other staff members have since recovered from COVID-19, but this closure was in the middle of its busiest season. And by the time Overtime was ready to “re-open”, the government rolled out restrictions that prohibited dine-in service. Given the trajectory of COVID cases in Colorado and how long it was closed by the government over the summer, it seems unlikely that Overtime will be able to open for dine-in service until early February at the earliest. Being restricted from having dine-in service during NFL games, especially playoff season, is an unrecoverable situation for Overtime Sports Bar and Grill and it’s staff.
Overtime’s dedicated staff, Lori and Dan’s extended family, have fought to keep Overtime safe and welcoming. They are now facing a hardship that affects their families during this chaotic time. For these hardworking, friendly, and supportive people, by the time Overtime can probably reopen for dine-in service, and re-open to full capacity, it will have been months of limited income.

Like many others this year, the holiday season has become a challenging time for the Prellberg family and the business.
If Lori pulls through her hospitalization, she will be unlikely to return to work anytime soon, as she goes through physical therapy to recover from the damage COVID has done to her lungs and body, and Dan, who also works at least six days a week, will likely have to spend significant time away from Overtime helping to care for the love of his life.
No one likes to ask for help, however Lori and Overtime need your help to keep the Prellberg family and Overtime afloat during Lori’s recovery for the remainder of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lori and Dan have done everything in their power to help Overtime stay in business during the pandemic, including using their federal help, spending their personal savings, and using the limited savings of the business. Overtime is also looking into how to apply for the economic recovery money recently approved by the Colorado Legislature. But this money is not enough to keep the doors open. The recent shutdowns of the business, and the hospitalization of everyone’s second Mom have been the perfect storm for financial disaster.
