Help Mobile Auto Detailers Fight City Hall

SANTA MARIA, CA. MOBILE WASH & DETAILERS ARE BEING PUSHED OUT OF BUSINESS BY BRICK AND MORTAR CARWASHES!
On April 06, 2021 The city of Santa Maria City Council will convene to vote on a new Ordinance to regulate it's Mobile Car Washes. These new draconian regulations will effectively put up to 95% of these hard working (mostly minority owned) mobile washes out of business.
These small business owners have carved out a niche market where car owners want and expect a better service then can be provided at a stationary carwash. There is a customer / client relationship built on trust and pride of ownership and pride of a job well done on the detailers part.
Mobile detailers already carry a city issued business license, general liability insurance, as well as vehicle insurance.
They are OK with using water retention mats and water recovery systems to keep water from entering the storm drains. They are OK with reasonable regulations but the way this ordinance is written, it will be almost impossible to comply.
For instance;
Besides a license they will have to apply for one of two permits (permit fee).
Dry-wash only permit. Just as the name says, mobile wash operators can no longer wet wash. They must use a spray on - wipe off system. Yeah right, if this is such a great system, why don't all car washes clean cars this way? This is an agricultural community and cars get dirtier here than in a big city.
Commercial washing permit (wet washing). For this permit you must have your equipment ready and set up a demonstration (demo fee) if you have a helper, that's a separate Sponsored permit fee (for each employee).
$20,000 bond in favor of the city. (Besides the general liability insurance).
Waste water disposal tank equal to the size of the clean water tank.
Waste water disposal permit (Fee) from water treatment plant + fees to dump.
If permit denied there is an appeal fee which can take up to 11 weeks for decision.
Permits must be renewed at least 45 day before expiration otherwise it will be treated as a NEW permit application. (Fees and Demo Fees)
Demonstrations (Fees) required every 2 years or yearly if you have been cited for a violation in the previous 2 years.
Vehicle & Equipment must be registered with original permit application, Operating any vehicle , trailer or other minimum required equipment not listed in permit is cause for a violation which will immediately revoke your permit. If you have your permit revoked, you must wait 1 full year before applying for a new permit. (Now his family has no income, they are in a pandemic and no jobs to be had, they have to go line up at the food bank or turn to welfare aid and slide further down the poverty pole).
Oh, and ALL COMMERCIAL WASHING WILL BE BANNED FROM ALL CITY STREETS. C'mon, isn't that why they are required to pick up their water? This is just over the top.
But wait, there's more. If Joe Citizen calls up a mobile detailer to come wash his car at his home on his own private property, and if that detailer just so happens to not have a valid permit, then that citizen is guilty of a misdemeanor.

These mostly minority owned small business owners and their families need our help. Your donation, will help to cover the cost of advertising and signs for planned marches and caravans. We will also hire an attorney to fight this Ordinance and force the city attorney to sit down with us and amend it to be fair and give them a chance to remain in business. If there is any moneys left over, it will be used to purchase as much required equipment as possible for the ones that cannot afford it.
