Mira is a transgender woman who fled Yemen to escape violence and persecution due to her identity. Despite her courageous efforts, her journey to safety has been marked by immense challenges, including arrest, betrayal, and homelessness. Now in Egypt, she faces daily struggles for survival, with no stable place to live and constant threats to her safety. Mira urgently needs support to cover basic living expenses like rent and food while she seeks refugee status and a permanent home in a safer country. Your help can provide her with the stability she needs to rebuild her life and live in peace.
The Start of Mira's Journey: Escaping her country
Mira, a brave transgender woman, dreams of living a peaceful life where she can be her true self. Born in Aden, a city rich in culture but torn by war and oppression, Mira faced unimaginable hardships. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she was rejected by her family and community, enduring abuse, imprisonment, and threats simply because of who she is. In her words, “My simplest wish is to live in peace, to be a complete woman, and to live my life like any girl—studying, working, and building a future.”
Despite saving just enough money to leave Yemen, Mira's journey has been fraught with obstacles. She must hide her identity, still disguising herself as a male to survive in nearby countries that do not fully support the LGBTQ+ community. Her ultimate goal is to reach a country like The Netherlands, Germany, Canada, or Australia, where she can live freely and begin her gender transition. But the road is long, and Mira urgently needs help to get there.
Setback: Arrest, Betrayal, and Homelessness
A week before her planned departure, Mira was arrested, beaten, and forced to sign a document she didn’t understand. Yet, with immense courage, she escaped Yemen and arrived in Egypt. However, her struggles didn’t end there. Upon arrival, Mira was betrayed by a friend who took her money, leaving her homeless. With no job and no stable place to live, she found temporary shelter with an old school friend, but the uncertainty and danger followed her.
Despite these setbacks, Mira continues to fight for her future. She plans to seek refugee status through UNHCR, but this process is lengthy, and until then, she has no stable income or permanent home.
Urgent Need: Help Mira Find Stability
Now in Egypt, Mira is still struggling. Just last week, she was attacked while out getting food, her money and belongings stolen. This has left her unable to even walk safely on the streets. Mira’s situation is dire, and she urgently needs support for rent, food, and basic living expenses.
We are calling on 30 kind-hearted individuals to commit to donating just $5–$10 per month. Your donations will help Mira cover her basic living costs, such as rent and food. Besides that we are raising money to support her expenses when she finally secures a visa to move to a safer country. This includes costs for travel, accommodation, and other essentials as she begins the next chapter of her journey toward freedom and stability.
Mira has shown incredible resilience, but she cannot do this alone. Let’s come together and help Mira secure the safety and future she deserves. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in her life.
This fundraising effort is organized by Freethinkers International , a project of the Id Fix Foundation based in the Netherlands. The Id Fix Foundation is recognized as an official NGO by the Dutch government, dedicated to supporting individuals like Mira who seek safety and freedom from persecution. Your contribution not only helps Mira on her journey but also aligns with our mission to advocate for human rights and support vulnerable individuals across the globe. Together, we can make a lasting impact on her life and provide her with the stability she desperately needs.
