April 25th, 2017, a herd of miniature horses were attacked by 2 free roaming dogs. Fortunately the owners, Tony and Lisa Brasel were home and able to stop the dogs mid-attack, but not before killing most of their chickens (approx 30) and causing life-threatening injuries on 2 miniature horses. Other horses sustained minor injuries but the 2 injured the worst are still in critical condition one week later. Both horses sustained significant deep puncture wounds on their entire bodies, and especially on their head and necks. One horse sustained a torn muzzle, ripping it almost halfway off from one side. The second horse sustained a big injury to the side of his face, leaving an open hole with missing flesh. (photo is almost a week after the injury). The horse with the injury on the side of his face is in critical condition, fighting a superbug (an infection resistant to antibiotics).
The owner of the dogs is denying any responsibility, even though the dogs have been reported to chase kids & attack their parent, as well as other incidents on record. While charges are in process against the dogs' owner, the likelihood of collecting vet bills is very low (blood from a turnip...) and the attorney has warned even a positive legal outcome is likely to yield no payments.
The owners of the horses are a good friend. They are big supporters of rescue, both in taking in animals and helping to find homes. Two of the seriously injured horses came from Louisiana last fall! It breaks my heart for them to experience such a financial burden on top of the emotional stress this senseless incident has caused. Vet bills are mounting...as of 5/2 both horses have been hospitalized for 7 days and counting. There is no mention of an end to their treatments anytime soon. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated....and sharing the story will encourage her case to continue in the legal system, and hopefully bring awareness to how much damage just a couple dogs can do and the responsibility owners need to take when owning some large breeds of dogs.
Thanks for taking the time to read the story...please ask any questions....and contact me if you'd prefer to make a payment directly to the vet clinic for the minis care.
paypal donations can be sent as well, but you'll need to message me for that private information. with a note indicating for the minis. Funds from this fundraising account will go directly to Tony & Lisa for bills. Paypal will be forwarded directly to their paypal. Payments to the vet applied directly to the bill there.
