Until a few months ago, Amelia was a normal 3rd grader – a happy, curious, and intelligent child who loves gymnastics, drawing, and playing Roblox. In September we started noticing some easy bruising on her body and mouth. After 2 grueling and anxiety-ridden months, multiple tests and 3 bone marrow biopsies later, Amelia was diagnosed with Myelodysplasic Syndrome (MDS) with high-risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Amelia met with a bone marrow specialist and a bone marrow transplant has been recommended to greatly improve her survival along with several rounds of chemotherapy.
Donations will be used to increase awareness, fund bone marrow donor drives, cover medical expenses for months spent in the hospital, relocating to transplant center and essential resources during this difficult time.

AML is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It is characterised by an overproduction of myeloblasts (immature white blood cells). The myeloblasts overwhelm the bone marrow and prevent it from making normal blood cells. They can also spill out into the blood stream and circulate around the body. Immature white blood cells are unable to function properly to prevent or fight infection. Inadequate numbers of red blood cells are not able to be made by the bone marrow, and this causes anaemia, bleeding, and bruising.
