My name is Mike Carver, although I assume most of you who will see this link already know that, but here's to introducing myself when typing this is already hard, and a little awkward.
I'm a husband, and father of 3, that works in the automotive industry. We live in Houston, TX. After much thought and consideration, I decided to start this GoFundMe to humbly seek any help and assistance during this time with an emergency move for my family.
We have lived in our rental home for 13 years now, and here recently it has been showing signs of foundation issues. My landlord is an amazing gentleman that has worked with us through any issues that we've ever had. We have been very fortunate and thankful, but he and his wife are older, and we are their last property. Which makes the repair costs of the foundation issues not on the agenda to be fixed.
Shortly before all of this, we knew they would sell when we moved and we're in the beginning stages of saving, on a budget (like most families understandably) with the goal to do an out-of-state move to Virginia by the end of the year.
Two days ago, on 4/12/26 we had a heavy torrential rain that flooded water into the house, with 1-2 inches of water going into the living room and bedroom. You will see in the photos we have completely removed all the carpet and padding from both rooms so that it is just the concrete.
It's important to include that we have never flooded, even through Harvey & the Tax Day flood, for examples. In the worst storms the water has only ever reached the 1st few feet of driveway. This is purely structural functionality.
The quality of our living environment has changed drastically since Sunday, and will continue with every foreseeable thunderstorm, or worse.
And so, I'm reaching out as a plea for help with an Emergency Move fund.
We know times are very hard, and we are so very appreciative for any kind of support that is given, no amount is too small.
Gia and I are both looking for odd jobs to help make money. Please let us know if you know of any or have any that we could do. We are looking into community resources, & supplemental incomes, like door dash & amazon flex, but are currently waitlisted.
If anyone has access to boxes we can use for moving, that would be so greatly appreciated as well.
All financial choices will be the most frugal. We will be packing and moving our boxes via Uhual. All donations will go directly to moving expenses, uhaul truck/auto trailer rental, gas/hotel, application fees & downpayment for housing.
We are at such a loss right now and will do whatever is necessary to get relocated out of the house at its current state is unlivable, and the weather moving into hurricane season.
In normal circumstances, we would never ask.
This house holds so many fond memories, it has been such a beautiful spot to raise our children.
The past 48hrs, and what's potentially to come, while we scramble to move, has me overwhelmed enough to reach out for aid. Under normal circumstances, I would never ask. This has turned our plan of 8 months to move/save into a quality of living emergency and cuts our timeframe with a sense of urgency to as soon as we can manage.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. With much Love. -Mike
