<div>Peace! My name is Mekala Session. I am a musician born in Los Angeles, raised in Leimert Park. My community has been a large part of my identity as an artist since I can remember. My home has been the setting of discovery, networking, and my growth as a person for over 2 decades. I have been blessed to be able to practice, rehearse, record, or perform whenever I want in my own backyard.

<div>My landlord recently 60 day'd me for no other reason than wanting to sell the property. It would pain me greatly to move away from this space that I've invested so much time and energy into, that I've made so many incredible memories in. But the reality is, if I don't buy the place, I will have to move out. I need at least 30k for a down payment, likely more.

<div>So! If you've ever been to a show in my garage, or a rehearsal or a jam, or maybe you were in the living room listening to records or playing videogames, or you came to Friendsgiving and ate good, please consider donating! If you've NEVER been to my place, maybe you saw it in the documentary or a short film or music video or saw us at the Geffen Contemporary, PLEASE consider donating!! I want you to visit, I want to continue doing shows, I want to build a real studio, I want this space to realize its full potential.

<div>There's also a benefit show at 2220 arts + archives on Tuesday October 22nd 2024. We're screening short films and music videos shot in the garage as well as special performances by The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, Moor Mother and Pink Siifu. I appreciate your time and attention. No matter the outcome, I love you very, very much. I love my home because of the genuine people I've got to share it with.
