Help Michi become a Midwife!

Dear family, friends, and community,

I write to you today to ask for your support in raising funds for a beloved friend, amazing birth worker, and traditional healer - Michi Arguedas, so she may fulfill her calling of becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)!

Michi has been offering grounding, ceremonial care as a full-spectrum doula in the Oakland Bay Area for the last 7 years. Her current work builds on years of supporting her family and loved ones through birthing, raising babies, and experiencing significant life transitions since she was a child in Costa Rica. Michi will bring her ancestral knowledge of herbal medicine, healing massage, and energetic cleansing to the comprehensive medical skills and emergency response training she will receive in midwifery school. The way she brings traditional medicine and wisdom into modern living, birthing and grieving beautifully facilitates wholehearted intergenerational healing.

Michi’s purpose is to facilitate ceremonial, undisturbed births and to provide sacred space for people to receive safe care, free from obstetric violence. She has organized with Roots of Labor Birth Collective, Birth Justice Project and Bay Area Doula Project to provide Latinx, Black, Asian, low-income, immigrant, and incarcerated people with culturally-reflective, healing-informed care through all stages of their birth and loss experiences. The United States has alarmingly high and largely preventable maternal mortality rates. We are in critical need of holistic primary care providers who offer culturally-humble, gender-affirming, consent-based wellness care to people across languages, cultures, and borders. Michi is working to give current generations the opportunity to heal intergenerational trauma and future generations the chance to be born in peace, so we may all grow to create a healthier, safer, more connected world. Caring and attentive providers who respect us, listen to us, encourage our autonomy, and support us in addressing the root causes of dis-ease are transformational and deeply necessary for the healing of humanity. Michi has dedicated her life to offering holistic care to her communities and this medical training will arm her with the skills needed to help birth the world we want to live in.

• Midwifery equipment - $3,000

• Midwifery books - $2,500

• Securing a safe home - $5,750

Midwifery school and apprenticeship are full-time jobs, requiring night and day hands-on work and study. Michi will need to pay all school-related costs, secure a place to live, and pay her monthly living expenses while devoting most of her time to this intensive training.

Healing work requires deep energetic commitment from the body, mind, heart, and spirit. When we contribute towards the sustainability of healers, we support a model of living and working that benefits everyone.
