Introduction

Hi, my name is Shamus O'Connor, and I’m reaching out during an incredibly difficult time. My beloved wife, Mercedes, has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. As we begin this fight together, we’re facing emotional and financial struggles we never imagined, and we’re turning to the kindness and support of our community to help us get through.

The Journey So Far

Up until now, we’ve been able to manage, but with Mercedes’s diagnosis, our lives have been turned upside down. She’s the love of my life, my partner, and my best friend, and we’re committed to facing this together. Unfortunately, her diagnosis has meant an immediate and severe reduction in our household income, as she’s had to stop working to focus on treatment and healing.

Why We’re Asking for Help

We’ve done everything we can to manage on our own, but with medical expenses, reduced income, and regular bills piling up, we’re quickly reaching the limit of what we can bear financially. Your donation will go toward critical expenses, including:

Medical bills and treatments not fully covered by insurance

Essential living costs, like rent and utilities, so we can stay in our home

Expenses related to her care and comfort during this journey

How You Can Make a Difference

Every single contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in our lives and help us keep fighting. We’re beyond grateful for any support you can provide, whether it’s through a donation or simply sharing this page with others.

Thank You for Your Support

Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for standing with us during this unimaginable time.
