Help mend Bella’s broken heart.

Hi, We got a beautiful little puppy last weekend(sat 8th jan). We took her to our local vet on the Monday to be checked and vaccinated.

Unfortunately he told us she had a really bad heart murmur and to return her to the breeder. After several phone calls we were given the choice to return her or have a refund to use the money to have the murmur investigated. If we chose to return her she was being euthanised by the breeder. We had already had her a few days and she had won the hearts of all the family, the kids adored her along with our other spaniel Brie. This wasn’t going to be an option.

We took her to Mackie & Brechin in Kirkliston where three vets all checked and sounded her, they were excellent. They agreed it was severe and referred her to The Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies. They called that afternoon requesting to see her the next morning where they gave her various tests and heart scan. They concluded she had severe Pulmonic Stenosis, they can operate and are quite positive of the out come but the cost is £6000 for the operation and around £400 for each follow up scan(possibly 2).

She has today started on Atenolol which is a beta blocker to slow her heart to ease the strain. If we are unable to fund the surgery she will continue taking medication until her heart fails, they think maybe months to possibly a year.

The cardiology specialist has provisionally booked her in at the beginning of March.

Bella seems like a normal little pup jumping around and nibbling everything she can get her mouth on. She loves snuggling with Brie and has took over my sofa and bed. Whatever happens we will give her all the care, love and attention she needs.
