I wish I wasn't writing this, but it has come to crunch time..
We left the UK in 2013 and was planning on traveling , we did for a while through France and then Spain and ended up in Portugal.
It's not been easy with Melvin being unwell on and off , I financial support us both, plus cared for Melvin.
JUNE 2020 his health took a turn and he was rushed into Emergency hospital in Portimão.
On having tests to start it showed he had a Tia (small stroke), on the left side and on the right white matter. (Possible brain tumour)
These was very worrying time's for us both , I still had to work, look after 5 dog's and 2 horse's plus Melvin .
In the end after several months I ended up burning myself out.
Then he had a MRI scan , luckily there was no tumor. Which was a big relief.
Instead it showed that the Digenative disc diesese had deteriorated .
In the Cervical spine C2-C3 C3-C4 C4-C5 C5-C6 C6-C7 T1 T2 plus there was also some that had collapsed, plus he had ligament, tendon and muscle damage, along with compression.
The cervical spine is very valuable.
In his Lumbar , L1-L2 L2-L3 L3-L4 L4-L5 L5-S1 also with compression.
On top of that he now has Inflammatory diesese.
We made a decision to try to see if Melvin could travel by car back to the UK.
As He had been told by a Rumitoligist/Nuroliogist he couldn't fly as it's he felt this was too dangerous to do so..
As we felt we needed more support, on
October 30 th 2020 we packed what we could in the car , and say goodbye to our two horses which was heartbreaking , re-homed one of the dogs and the other two stayed with the owners of the property so It was just ourselves and two dog's.
We headed out of Portugal into Spain . ! The reason we went this way was at the time Portugal up north was on lock down and there was restrictions.
Our timing as was totally off as we entered Spain, the very next day Spain went into lock down.
We got held up in a Hostal for 3.5 weeks. We was restricted to where we could go at that time as alot of places were closed and certain areas was closed plus we had the two dogs that also made it a little bit difficult.
Melvin became unwell , one because of the traveling and two because he wasn't getting the correct diet staying in a room in the hostel.
So we found somewhere to rent and I found work , all was going great.
Then Bang !!! In a Matter of 2 weeks if it could go wrong it has and it did.
In 4 days we are homeless.. ! 4 Days. ! Living out of our car.
We have phoned the British consulate in Spain and the UK , also the citizens advice bureau in Spain and UK also in Gibraltar. No help.
Our families can't help.
As we are no longer British Citizens because we have been out of the country more than 5 years they won't help .
Even if we found by some miracle to get back we still would be homeless and get no help.
We are basically hanging from a fish hook...
He can't travel by car it makes him extremely unwell also,, On a daily basis he feels as if his drunk but doesn't drink. He Suffers from double vision and once in a car even for 5 mins this is worse..
Car sickness, blurred vision and feels as if his head is being crushed.
Feels as if his head is going to explode.
After being in the car 5 mins he will need to sleep for 5 hours then for several days after he still feels the effect.
If and I mean if , Melvin would need medical support to get back to the UK which means going to the specialists here in Spain and relay information back to the Emergency services back in the UK By flying Ambulance, even before he would need to have a lot of medical tests done.
We have to pay for this ourselves, which can cost between €10,000-€30,000 we don't have that kind of Money.
We tried to get Health insurance but they won't touch him , so we had to lie to at least get some sort of health insurance.
As we are trying again with our application for residency here in Spain as the first one was refused and health insurance is a must or you have to have so much in your account, which we don't have. So at least we belong somewhere.
We aren't residence in any country.
Melvin is my life.. He is my world.
I'm so scared and worried about the next few days as I'm a healthcare assistant and I know what will happen to him if we end up sleeping in the car and we have no money , He has no medication and doesn't have a good health diet.
His health will deteriorate quickly.
I'm worried about his health and safety and well-being.
The out come won't be good.
It's a terrifying situation to be in to say the least.
He has been through so much in his life , yet he fight's every day to just do the simplest of things.
He feels no pain , which in itself is bizarre as I have seen him climb the walls in pain up till he became ill last year.
Some days he will get up out of a chair and just freeze like a statue because his legs forget how to work. Then it can take 5 mins to get them working again .. He gets tied quickly.
It's not just as simple as getting in a car an driving, it physically makes him extremely unwell.
We don't go out because of Melvin's health. We are very isolated .
It's just an awful situation to be in .
He needs constant medical intervention , medication.
