Out of no where on Wednesday July 31st 2024, the morning started awful. After Franklin woke up he was very weak, hardly able to walk, vomiting and very lethargic. I took him out as normal but he laid down and didn’t have strength to even get up so I had to carry him. After a little bit I noticed him get weaker and weaker so I rushed him to the vet. The vet found he had an unexplainable 106.7 fever. He could barely keep his eyes open and couldn’t move. They rushed in the back for iv fluids and said he needed emergency admission right away so after his fluids, I rushed him to our nearest emergency vet. He was treated for the fever but ended up having to be in the icu and on oxygen. He was stuck spending the night to get the needed care.
The next morning is when his brother started to experience similar symptoms out of no where. He was fine the day before. But sudden weakness, vomiting, and just all around did not look well. After speaking with the Er Franklin was at meaty was shortly rushed there. Once arriving we came to find out they needed even more intense care this location did not feel comfortable preforming so I had to transfer them again to Philadelphia to be treated. Their fevers were spiking and they all around were not good. There has been multiple tests run several times on both, blood work, scans, everything and nothing is providing us answers.
Franklin had to spend some time in the ICU and CCU because his breathing was declining and we needed him to be isolated to protect him. After 24 hours he was sent to internal medicine with his brother. Both are continuing to get tests and figure out why this happened. All we have come to find is both are losing white blood cells, annd unexplainable low platelet count, random fevers, and with all the tests coming negative to things. The docs keep wanting to add more and repeat some already done to try to get to the bottom but its becoming costly.
They both are on iv medicine 24 hours a day. With additional tests to try to come to the bottom but the hospital is just as puzzled at what is causing this attack on my boys. I’m over 2 hours from the hospital and have been staying in a hotel to be close in case anything as there’s no reason why or any promise they won’t decline. So expenses are getting nuts between staying, traveling and the extra things needed to be added to get to the bottom of this and get them home!
With all of this unexpected and seeing this isn’t cheap and seems to be piling up. I’m hoping we can get some help to continue the care they need here as there have been slight improvements but it’s getting out of hand with the costs and I don’t want to stop them from something they need to survive right now. Anything helps. Even a share helps right now. Bills are climbing over 20k between their hospitalization and extended stay needed due to needing these meds.
