Help me upgrade my equipment to get a microphone!

Update 11/15: Oh my goodness, we hit our goal!!! Thank you so much everyone, your support means a lot to me. I already bought the new camera after we hit an earlier milestone, and now I'll work on getting a podcast setup going!

I purposefully did an underestimate for the original goal here just to be safe, but with tax I ended up spending over $1000 for all the equipment--so I am increasing the goal just for anyone who wants to help out or generally support me in making videos. (But the podcast is now in the works regardless :) ) Thank you again!!!

Hi friends! I'm Miche, from the Youtube channel Miche, PhD, and I could really use your help.

I have been making science videos on diet, nutrition, fitness, and health for years, and approach it as a free educational service rather than a business (more on that below). I've been getting requests to improve my YouTube sound quality, and to upload all my episodes as podcasts too for people who would rather listen on the go. But my current camera (which is 7+ years old at this point) has pretty bad audio (and video), and doesn't allow for external microphone input.

So I want to upgrade my setup so I can use a microphone, have better audio and video quality, and upload my episodes as podcasts. My goal is to upgrade my canon G7X to the current version, which has a mic input.

But because I approach my channel as an educational service rather than a business--as in, I disable disruptive ads (e.g., midroll and unskippable) and don't accept sponsorships--I unfortunately have not made enough money from it to upgrade my equipment.

So if you benefit from my content, I'd really appreciate your help and support in keeping it going and improving it! Any amount helps, even just a dollar. :)
