Help Me Shoot my Short Film "Blood Run"

I am raising money to shoot "Blood Run" February 28th. I need the funds to fairly pay our actors and crew as well as help promote the film and help get the short film distribution. We have already done so well placing in the Second Round of the Screen Craft Sci-Fi/ Fantasy Short Film Contest in 2019 and we made it to the Waitlist for the NALIP/ Latino Lens Women of Color Incubator Sponsored by Netflix.

 

Anyone who donates will have their name appear in the credits and gain access to a private link of the film in its completion before its release. Anyone who donates over $100 will be credited as a producer.

 

Blood Run is the story of a young woman who finds herself prey to a notorious girl gang who wish to recruit her due to a rare blood disorder she has which makes her violent towards men.

 

I have to say I am often driven to write about and endlessly compelled by developing female characters with violent tendencies. For a while I wondered what this could possibly mean about me, but I can see clearly now how it ties directly into my life's purpose.

 

When I was in my early twenties I read Foxfire by Joyce Carol Oates and that book just came alive inside of me. I got the main character’s name tattooed on my left wrist and the question “What drives women to become violent?” echoed in my mind for many years. I chased away a few boyfriends (and girlfriends too for that matter) binge watching shows like Snapped and Women Who Kill rewinding the sections with the criminal psychologists, attempting to catch every detail while eating way too many M&Ms.

 

The other aspect to what compels me to write the way that I do is my secret belief , well...hope, if I’m being completely honest, that compassion ties us all together. I recall this one night when I was living in San Francisco I was walking down 24th st around 4am and out of nowhere in the silence of the night, a man appeared across the street. Every woman knows that fear that burns in the stomach and rushes up to the back of your throat. Blood Run puts men in that very situation. It has them seeing a group of women past midnight and shaking in their boots and I think it offers them an opportunity to see the world through a new lens, a lens that may echo throughout their thought and decision making process in a way that can ripple out into the world.

 

In this futuristic film, Camille Reyes gives everything she has to fight the virus running through her blood and the rage it manufactures and magnifies inside of her. The story is one I’m dying to tell. I chose my great friend and power house, Black Female Director, Jaszmin Kuhner to help me tell it. We are shooting the film in August and location scouting at the moment. We are fortunate to have the support of producer of Bangs, Roxana Altamirano as our mentor and just excited about working on our first film together.

 

This funding would be greatly appreciated in helping us create the best version of the story we can. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for hearing me out. This film means so much to me and it is close to my heart. Thanks for helping me make my dream come true.
