Help A Musician Get Through COVID-19

Hello friends!

I’m Daniel Vnukowski (also Wnukowski), the Canadian-born, Polish-bred pianist and touring performer. In 2020, I was supposed to perform all throughout North America and Europe. This included a series of lecture recitals on Holocaust music at over 10 colleges throughout the U.S.

I’m stuck at the moment, just like many of you are, as all my concerts have been cancelled until 2022 and my summer music festival in Collingwood, of which I am Artistic Director, has also been postponed to the summer of 2021. My primary income has always been live touring, lecturing and teaching masterclasses and the fate of these activities looks grim for the rest of the year and possibly well into 2021.

I thought that the best use of my time now would be to learn new repertoire, make new arrangements and prepare new demo videos - and here I could really use your help.

I have always loved performing and recording fresh, new works and have released five critically-acclaimed albums. I’m also currently blessed with the use of an amazing instrument, the Fazioli 308, also known as the longest piano in the world, handcrafted in Italy.

Each Saturday, since the month of April, I have been live streaming a series of free virtual performances over Youtube & Facebook, some of which have gone viral and reached over a million people. The project has been endorsed by Fazioli Pianos, Classical FM, IdeaCity and most recently NPR Radio and BBC Music Magazine.

I'm now working on a new project will take part in 4 phases:

     • Research & Inspiration. Purchasing scores and visiting relevant museums.

     • Study & Creation Process. Studying new repertoire, producing arrangements of piano covers and sheet music. I plan to create at least 30 piano covers of popular Rock tunes from the 70s and 80s. Selected works will also be livestreamed during the Saturday broadcasts.  

      • Production. Recording new music arrangements from home using a professional video production team.

      • Advertising & Publicity. Hiring a professional publicist and social media manager to promote the videos online.

This project will require numerous expenses in the areas of subsistence, production, promotion and travel. For example, the license fees alone for producing piano covers of Rock songs can exceed $3000 USD, while the expenses of continuing the livestream sessions requires an annual fee at a multi-streaming platform solution such as Restream.io ($199 USD/year). 

I’m super-eager to get started with this project, which will continue throughout 2021. This rough episode has not staunched my creativity or persistence. In fact, I’m busier than ever, practicing heavily and working throughout the night to continue building the new studio.

I feel very fortunate to have met wonderful, inspiring people throughout my musical journey, including sweet friends and devoted fans who have helped me get through every rough episode in the past. For that, I’m deeply appreciative and thankful to each and every one of you.
