2020 has been a horrendous year for us all -- which makes asking for help in this way especially hard.
If there were any way to save the life that has been a singular source of joy for me during these dark times, I would. But without the help of others, there's no feasible way to save my four month old kitten, Miracle, who needs an unexpected surgery to save her life.
Miracle suffered a strangulating wound at birth, causing a portion of her hind leg to fall off due to loss of circulation. She was one of two that survived out of a litter of 7, but her mother rejected her because she was the runt of the litter. She was severely underweight and had to be bottle fed. She barely made it.
I was also born with health complications at birth -- my doctor's diagnosis was "failure to thrive," but I was a fighter and proved them wrong. I saw that same fight to live in Miracle. She's my kindred spirit -- when I met her, it seemed she was out of the woods as far as health complications went.
I was wrong.
My boyfriend and I noticed blood dripping from her stub last Tuesday, and rushed her to the ER where they told us she may have an infection -- since she uses her half leg to walk, it constantly comes in contact with the floor.
After multiple tests, x-rays and a surgical procedure to flush out the wound, we discovered this infection will continue to re-emerge and spread to the bone. This is extremely dangerous, and can lead to death. Her only hope of survival is to have her leg amputated -- something we never anticipated. While we allotted funds for her basic medical care, this expense is something we're not only unprepared for, but unable to pay due to the financial losses we've suffered during this pandemic.
Losing her would be unbearable for us. After a year of so much loss we wanted to open our hearts and home to an animal in need. Upon adoption, the veterinarian assured us her half leg wouldn't need additional treatment or surgery. Her prior procedure was close to $2,000 in bills, and the amputation surgery and post operative care will cost at least another $2,000-$3,000.
We are completely blindsided, and have no choice but to rely on support from others who are able to donate -- no amount is too small, and every little bit helps. It was extremely difficult for me to get this vulnerable and create this page, but life is about helping one another so please, consider donating to help save her life.
