Help My Friend Save Bruce's Life

It was two years ago that I shared Bruce’s story with my friend Amy. I wasn’t looking for answers, I was just looking for a friend’s comfort. Bruce's health had taken another down turn and he had been placed on the kidney transplant list. I told her of his decline, of the stress that placed on our son, who loved his father dearly, and of the very real possibility that a donor kidney might not be available in time. Amy listened with her legendary warmth and concern. We hugged and parted. I would later receive a totally unexpected call from my friend. “I was waiting for a sign and I just read on Facebook that Bruce has my blood type! My family talked about it and I have decided to start the workup to be Bruce’s living donor.” Shocked, I asked, “Amy are you sure!?” And her response was typical Amy: “If God wants it to happen, it will happen.”
Much has changed in the past two years. Our dear son died of a heart attack. I spent a year battling cancer. And Bruce has dropped to only 9% kidney function. But one thing has never changed. Through it all I kept asking, “Amy are you sure? You don’t have to do this.” And Amy kept responding, “If God wants it to happen, it will happen.”
Well, it has happened. Amy is a PERFECT match for Bruce and just in time. Bruce is on his last phase and we are now planning for a May transplant. And that is why we come to all of you with a plea for support. Although medical expenses are covered, the average out of pocket cost for a Living Donor is around $20,000! Amy needs your help. We need your help! Travel costs for she and her family throughout her recovery and follow-up, recovery expenses, 6 weeks of lost wages from work and her teaching, and supplemental insurance will cost between $14,000- $20,000.
We can’t do this without you. PLEASE, help Amy help Bruce. Any donation to support this amazing woman, who selflessly stepped forward to give my husband life, would be extremely helpful and appreciated. Please help support this caring and loving family who are willing to sacrifice so much.
