Help me run as an Independent candidate for Corio

Hello Today.

My name is Luke Hinsley, I’m an aspiring independent candidate for the electorate of Corio, and my goal is to save the world. Climate Change is our greatest threat but it’s not the only threat we face, and government is the only institution on the planet with the power and resources to address them. But government needs to reform, we need a societal shift. We need free healthcare, including mental and dental care. Free education. Universal basic income. We need to move away from the Neo-Liberal ideology of running government like a business, with capitalism at all costs, making human civilisation solely about the pursuit of profit and material wealth. It needs to change, people need to feel hope for the future, and I want to lead the charge.

The problem is, I’m starting from poverty and campaigns cost money. Money for managers and materials, that I don’t have. Which brings me here.

I want to run with black as my colour and launch what I will call a black flag campaign, which evokes images of independence, rebellion, and hostility. Where I intend call out the bullshit in modern Australian politics. I will be your reckoning. It will be social media led, which I’m aware that online support does not equate to real life votes but online attention can lead to local attention; and money raised online is as real as any other. Which can be used to build local awareness and support.

My electorate is considered a safe Labor seat, we’ve had Labor representation essentially since the 60s, and as such we get taken for granted. We have 3 of Victoria’s top 10 most disadvantaged suburbs, including the number one spot of Norlane, where I live. Which actually moved up the list, so things are not getting better.

Which is why my platform includes running on a trial of raising Centrelink payments above the poverty line within the electorate, to build evidence that doing so nationally will lift people out of poverty, boost the economy, and improve people’s health and wellbeing.

At the last election we had nine candidates on the ballot in my electorate and all of them had a party affiliation, there’s a real opportunity here for a swing to an Independent candidate. If you would like to support me, please consider donating.

Note:

My goal is set at $10,000, as that is roughly the cap of funding that can be claimed if a candidate gets 4% of first preference votes. It costs $2,000 to register as a candidate (which I cannot do as an Independent until the election is called). Funds raised will be used for campaign staffing and advertising materials such as mailers and flyers, and the more money raised the bigger I can go with advertising.
