<div>Hej, mitt namn är Alexander. Jag är 32 år och bor i Sverige. Jag borde ha hela livet framför mig – men just nu känns det inte så, eftersom jag lever med allvarliga strukturella fel i ansiktet – mina käkar är underutvecklade, min gom är extremt smal och hög, bettet skevt på båda sidor och hela mitt ansikte snedställt. Det påverkar allt från hur jag andas och sover till hur jag pratar och ser ut. Det här är inte ett liv jag valt, det är en kamp jag tvingas genomlida varje dag. Trots att problemen är tydliga och mitt lidande dokumenterat, har den svenska vården gång på gång vänt mig ryggen. De menar att jag "kan leva med det", men det här är inte ett liv, det är överlevnad. När ingen här(i Sverige) ville hjälpa mig började jag desperat söka vård utomlands och till slut fann jag hopp i form av specialiserad käkkirurgi i USA. Nu står jag inför en möjlighet att få mitt liv tillbaka, men mina sparpengar och lån räcker inte hela vägen fram. Därför vänder jag mig nu till er, i hopp om stöd.

<div>För att du ska förstå hur jag hamnat här måste jag börja från början. Det är svårt att veta var jag ska börja, för det här är något av det svåraste jag någonsin behövt skriva. Nästan hela mitt liv har jag levt i en kropp som inte fungerar som den ska och problemen började redan när jag var barn. Vid tio års ålder tvingades jag dra ut min första tand för att min mun var för trång, sedan fortsatte man att ta bort tänder istället för att skapa mer utrymme och låta käken utvecklas naturligt. Det var starten på en rad misstag. Att dra ut tänderna löste inte mina problem. Tvärtom krympte munhålan för varje tand som försvann och utrymmet för tungan, käken och luftvägen blev bara trängre. Det här har lagt grunden till den komplexa, funktionella kollaps jag lever med idag.

<div>Jag har redan genomgått en SARPE-operation i Sverige 2019, som skulle vidga min överkäke, men de gjorde bara tillräckligt för att tänderna skulle linjeras och inte för att min tunga skulle få plats eller för att jag skulle kunna andas bättre. Operationen har istället försämrat min situation, munhålan är fortfarande trång och asymmetrin tydligare. Enligt den svenska vården ser mitt bett okej ut, men jag kan fortfarande inte leva.

<div>Jag har kämpat med allt jag kan för att bli hörd. Jag har sökt hjälp hos käkkirurger, tandläkare, ortodontister, fysioterapeuter och många fler, men ingen har velat lyssna eller ta ansvar. Två specialister i USA, som sett mitt tillstånd med egna ögon och röntgen, har bekräftat hur allvarligt det är. Ändå vägrar man här hemma att se eller förstå det jag kämpar med varje dag och jag står fortfarande ensam i min kamp. Min ork är slut och ibland vet jag inte hur jag ska orka ta mig igenom nästa dag. Jag är så trött.

<div>Mina käkar är kraftigt underutvecklade (bimaxillär hypoplasi), mitt ansikte snett på grund av ett skevt överkäksben (maxillary cant) och jag har ett bakre korsbett på båda sidor, vilket förvärrar bettfunktionen och asymmetrin. Min gom är så smal och högt valv att tungan trycks bakåt och nedåt, vilket gör det svårt att svälja och prata. Det rubbar hela kroppens balans, och varje gång jag sväljer måste kroppen kompensera vilket skapar spänningar i nacke, käkar och skuldror och påverkar min hållning. Jag har konstant lock för öronen och smärta i käklederna som tillsammans med min utmattning nästan är outhärdliga.

<div>Jag har tvingats andas med munnen hela livet på grund av luftvägen jag har, som är smal som ett sugrör. Det påverkar mitt nervsystem och leder till kronisk stress, oro, hjärndimma och psykisk utmattning. Jag sover knappt längre för att min kropp är fast i ett ständigt tillstånd av kamp och flykt där jag aldrig kan landa. Trots upprepade försök med sömntabletter och CPAP kvarstår problemen.

<div>Det här har gjort att jag idag inte är arbetsförd och är sjukskriven på heltid, vilket känns extra tungt eftersom jag är kock och älskar att skapa minnesvärda matupplevelser. Jag längtar innerligt efter att få återvända till mitt yrke, men just nu orkar jag varken stå långa dagar eller vara bland människor. Min kropp säger ifrån, och jag är utmattad och helt slut. Det värsta är att det inte bara är jag som drabbas – min sambo, familj och vänner påverkas också, och jag bär en stor sorg över att inte kunna finnas där för dem som jag vill. Att leva med denna begränsning och se vad det gör med dem jag älskar är en smärta som är svår att beskriva. Jag känner mig som en fånge i min egen kropp.

<div>För att få den hjälp jag behöver tvingas jag nu söka vård i USA, där jag kan genomgå avancerad käkkirurgi. Det handlar om en DOME-kirurgi där man vidgar den övre käken genom att separera benet i mittlinjen och höja det smala gom valvet för att skapa plats åt tungan och förbättra andningsvägarna. Jag kommer även att behöva en dubbel käkoperation för att korrigera käkarnas position och återställa balans i ansiktet och kroppen. Dessa ingrepp är inte riskfria, men utan dem har jag inget liv, jag överlever men jag lever inte. Jag har redan lagt undan allt jag kan och lånat pengar, men det räcker inte hela vägen. Därför vädjar jag nu om din hjälp. Om du kan bidra till min operation skulle jag vara otroligt tacksam, oavsett storlek på bidraget. <div>Even though the problems are clear and my suffering has been documented, the Swedish healthcare system has turned its back on me over and over again. They say I can live with it, but this is not living, this is just surviving. When no one here wanted to help me, I desperately started searching for care abroad. Eventually, I found hope in the form of specialized jaw surgery in the United States. Now I have a chance to get my life back, but my savings and loans aren’t enough to cover the full cost. That’s why I am reaching out to you now, hoping for your support.

<div>To understand how I ended up here, I need to start from the beginning. It's hard to know where to begin, because this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. Almost my whole life, I’ve lived in a body that doesn’t work the way it should, and the problems began when I was a child. At ten years old, I had my first tooth pulled because my mouth was too small. After that, more teeth were removed instead of making space and allowing the jaw to grow naturally. That was the beginning of a long chain of mistakes. Pulling teeth didn’t solve anything. On the contrary, my mouth became smaller with every lost tooth, and the space for my tongue, jaw, and airway just kept getting tighter. That laid the foundation for the complex functional collapse I live with today.

<div>I already went through a SARPE surgery in Sweden in 2019, meant to widen my upper jaw, but they only did enough to align the teeth, not to give my tongue room or help me breathe better. The surgery actually made things worse. My mouth is still narrow, and the asymmetry is now even more visible. According to the Swedish healthcare system the bite looks okay, but I still can’t live.

<div>I’ve fought with everything I have to be heard. I’ve asked for help from surgeons, dentists, orthodontists, physical therapists and more, but no one has wanted to listen or take responsibility. Two specialists in the US, who have seen my condition in person and through scans, have confirmed how serious it is. Still, no one back home wants to see or understand what I struggle with every day, and I remain alone in this fight. I’m out of strength, and sometimes I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the next day. I’m so tired.

<div>My jaws are severely underdeveloped (bimaxillary hypoplasia), my face is crooked due to a tilted upper jawbone (maxillary cant), and I have a posterior crossbite on both sides, which worsens my bite and facial imbalance. My palate is so narrow and high that my tongue is pushed backward and downward, making it hard to swallow and speak. It disrupts the whole balance of my body, and every time I swallow, my body has to compensate, which creates tension in my neck, jaw, and shoulders and affects my posture. I constantly have ear pressure and pain in my jaw joints, and together with my exhaustion, it’s almost unbearable.

<div>I’ve had to breathe through my mouth my whole life because of my airway, which is as narrow as a straw. This affects my nervous system and leads to chronic stress, anxiety, brain fog and mental fatigue. I can barely sleep anymore because my body is stuck in a constant state of fight-or-flight, never able to rest. Even after trying sleeping pills and a CPAP machine, the problems remain.

<div>Because of all this, I’m currently unable to work and on full-time sick leave. That’s especially painful since I’m a chef and I love creating memorable food experiences. I long to return to my profession, but right now I don’t have the energy to stand on my feet all day or be around people. My body is shutting down, and I’m completely exhausted. The worst part is that I’m not the only one suffering. My partner, family and friends are also affected, and I carry deep sadness over not being able to be there for them the way I want to. Living with these limitations and seeing what it does to the people I love is a pain that’s hard to put into words. I feel like a prisoner in my own body.

<div>To get the help I need, I now have to seek care in the US, where I can have advanced jaw surgery. This includes a DOME procedure, where the upper jaw is widened by separating the bone in the midline and lifting the narrow palate to create space for the tongue and improve the airway. I will also need double jaw surgery to correct the position of my jaws and restore balance to my face and body. These procedures are not without risks, but without them, I don’t have a life. I am surviving, but I am not living. I’ve already saved and borrowed as much as I can, but it’s not enough. That’s why I’m asking for your help. If you can contribute to my surgery, I would be deeply grateful, no matter the amount. The money will go toward the remaining surgical costs, essential preparations, aftercare, braces, and travel expenses. I would also be thankful if you would consider sharing my story with others who might be able to help.
