Help me buy a cheap house so I can move back home

I'm Donna, founder and content creator of FedUpWithFatigue.com, a website dedicated to covering the latest fibromyalgia and chronic Lyme news, research and treatments. I'm setting up this GoFundMe campaign at the request of several of my readers.

Here is my story...

In 2018, I developed a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, which left me bedbound for more than 9 months. After finally getting the leak repaired in 2019, I found out the leak caused a chiari malformation, which essentially means a portion of my brain has herniated down into my spinal cord. If that hurts just reading it, you can imagine what it's like to live with it! Ouch!!!!!!

The chiari is blocking the CSF from being able to properly drain out of my head. When the fluid builds up, it triggers daily headaches, chronic neck/shoulder/back/jaw pain, nausea, dizziness, brain fog, the inability to concentrate, balance issues and other symptoms.

During the past 4 years, I've only had 5 headache-free days!!!

I was already living with fibromyalgia, chronic Lyme and chronic lower back pain when I developed the CSF leak and the chiari. All of these chronic conditions have impacted my ability to work and earn a living but I've continued to push myself to work part time over the years in order to pay for my medical and household expenses.

As all of this was happening, my marriage began falling apart. The stress of that situation has worsened my health issues. I need to get out of this unhappy marriage so I can move back to Virginia where my friends and family live.

There's just one problem. Since I've only worked part time the past few years, I cannot qualify for a mortgage, and I also can't afford to pay $700-$1000 a month in rent. My dad was going to cosign a small mortgage for me, but he had a stroke in March and passed away, so he is no longer here to help me. :-( My stepmom initially offered to gift me some land from my dad's farm for a small home, but she has rescinded that offer because she is selling the farm.

And unfortunately, none of my friends or family can provide me with a place to live long term.

My husband and I are separating, and my plan is to move back to Southside Virginia where I was born and raised. It's a rural area, and houses there are pretty inexpensive compared to the average city. I've found a small modular home (see photo at top of page) that I'm buying. The owner is selling it for only $15,000, which is an amazing price, but the catch is it has to be moved from its existing location because he wants to build a new home on the lot.

I have some money in savings to buy the modular and cover moving it to a new location, but I also have to buy land to put it on, put in a well/septic, lay a new foundation, buy a new HVAC, etc. The expenses are adding up quickly, and unfortunately, I can't qualify for a mortgage or a loan because of my recent work history. It's going to take every bit of my savings and then some to set up the modular and cover the expenses of moving to Virginia, but I am determined to make this work one way or another because it's the cheapest and fastest way for me to get out of my current living situation.

(Realistically, I know I'm not going to raise $25,000 through GoFundMe, but they required me to set a goal, so I put that amount because that's approximately what I need to cover the remaining costs. I'm grateful for any amount because even small donations get me closer to my goal of moving home.)

Several of my readers indicated they would like to help me financially, and I am so appreciative of that! I know so many of you reading this have your own health issues and likely also have your own financial issues, too, so if that's your situation, then please just send your prayers and well wishes, and keep your money for your own needs. I would never want anyone to go without in order to donate to me.

But for those who have the financial resources, I am eternally grateful for any help you might give. Whatever money is raised through this campaign will be used to put toward the purchase of the modular and moving expenses to leave Delaware and go back to Virginia.

My home life has been very stressful the past few years. Until recently, I didn't realize how much stress was contributing to how I felt day to day. Since January, I've had several occasions to be away from my current home and my husband. Every time I am away, my headaches and chronic pain subside to more manageable levels, and I feel so much better! Based on these experiences, I'm convinced being in this troubled relationship is keeping me sicker than I should be.

If I can get into a home on my own where I can be calm and quiet and away from the chaos of my marriage, then I believe I will be able to heal enough to return to full-time work and grow FedUpWithFatigue.com to be even better than it is today.

Thank you ahead of time for anyone who is able to help. I am so grateful!
