Help me teach Twin Cities kids post George Floyd

Students of the Twin Cities are beginning their summer after an unbelievable ending to the 2019-2020 school year.  After experiencing a pandemic and massive civil unrest, these young people are undoubtedly seeking a chance to relax, escape the madness, and enjoy themselves for a while.  However, summer will not last forever.  The students of Minneapolis and Saint Paul will soon begin their 2020-2021 school year, on the heels of everything that has transpired so far in 2020. As a teacher with a decade of experience in the classroom, I know all too well that the upcoming school year will present many challenges and obstacles to the students of the Twin Cities.  In particular, junior high school students will be in a precarious position, due to a number of factors unique to their age group.  I have decided to do what I can to help these students receive a high-quality education, amidst these troubling times. This summer I will be relocating to the Twin Cities, to take a position as a Special Education Teacher at a local junior high school.  I plan on using my educational expertise to help these students socially, psychologically, and emotionally, as well as academically.  In addition to the typical issues junior high school students face (social dynamics, puberty, etc.), these students now have to cope with the reality of seeing protests, riots, and other civil unrest unfold first-hand, right in their own neighborhoods and communities.  As a black male educator, I am in a unique position to address the diverse needs of black students and other students of color, especially given the current social climate and circumstances they are now facing. Unfortunately, my funds for this transition are limited.  I am unable to afford the cost of shipping my vehicle and my furniture from Texas to Minnesota.  As a result, my current plan is to start over from scratch.  I will find and secure an apartment in the Twin Cities, make the 18 hour drive with whatever belongings I can fit into my vehicle, and start furnishing the new apartment while working in the new position.  It's not the most ideal situation, but given the ways things have gone this year, it could be much worse... I am asking for donations to garner support in this endeavor.  I will use the donations received to pay for my moving costs, which will be the cost of moving into and furnishing the new apartment in Minneapolis or Saint Paul.  I have already been hired for the Special Education Teacher position, but I will not begin working in this position until late August.  This will leave me with a gap of at least a month between paychecks, as my last paycheck from my current position in Texas will be in July.  July is when I plan on moving to the Twin Cities, so I hope to reach the goal by then. I want to do what I can to make a difference, after all that has happened this year.  I cannot help but see similarities between myself and George Floyd.  Like George, I am a black man moving from Texas to Minnesota for a work opportunity.  I am sorry for his family's loss, but also angry at the fact that he was unjustly killed, like so many other black people in this country, at the hands of the police.  I am also extremely cautious as I maneuver through society, as this is a danger I too face in America.  The reality is...that could have been me, and could still possibly one day BE me.  Such is the society and world we live in as black people, especially black males. Nevertheless, I will do what I can to affect change for the better.  I will use my talents and educational skill set to reach the lives of young people, particularly but not exclusively young black people and other young people of color.  I believe if we all do what we can to make positive changes, our individual ripples will coalesce into a tidal wave of societal transformation. I will be eternally grateful for any and all donations I receive for this cause and vision.  Thank you all in advance for your support!
