<div>On the morning of  <strong>July 24th, 2025 my life changed forever</strong>. I was in my kitchen, like any other day, getting ready to make breakfast. Without realizing it, I had placed an all purpose cleaner bottle near the stove. When I turned on what I thought was the correct knob, the wrong burner lit up and within seconds, the<strong> bottle started heating until it exploded.</strong>

<div>The next thing I knew, <strong>flames and chemicals were all over my face, neck, and body.</strong> I can still hear the sound of the explosion and feel the burn. Somehow, through the shock and pain, I ran straight to the shower. My adrenaline was so strong that I didn’t even realize how bad it was, I was trying to turn off the sprinklers that went off in the apartment. But when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, <strong>I saw my skin literally melting</strong>. My face… my chest… my arms. I passed out.

<div><strong>My son</strong>, who was working just a few blocks away, arrived before the paramedics. He <strong>thought I was already gone.</strong> He picked me up and drove me to the nearest clinic, where doctors immediately transferred me to Jackson Memorial Trauma Center, the only hospital equipped to handle burns that severe. <strong>Over 50% of my body was burned.</strong>

<div>I spent <strong>weeks in the hospital undergoing surgeries and skin grafts using synthetic skin</strong>. The pain was indescribable, but I was grateful to be alive. When the <strong>doctors finally sent me home</strong>, I tried to be strong, <strong>but the pain was unbearable.</strong> Within 24 hours, <strong>I collapsed </strong>and was rushed <strong>back to another clinic</strong>. <strong>Tragically, the nurses there accidentally damaged my grafts </strong>while cleaning my wounds, <strong>scraping both underarms raw and leaving me screaming in agony. I was immediately transferred back to Jackson.</strong>

<div>After weeks of treatment and recovery, I was finally able to return home with my daughter by my side every single day. She has been my rock, my caretaker, and my voice through all this.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now,<strong> three months later</strong>, I’m trying to move forward. <strong>My wounds are healing, but my skin is fragile and my body still aches</strong>. The next step in my recovery is <strong>laser treatment, <em>a crucial phase to manage the pain, reduce scarring, and help my skin heal properly</em></strong>. My doctors say it’s important to start now for the best results.

<div><strong>Unfortunately</strong>, the laser treatment is considered “cosmetic” and<strong> not covered by my insurance </strong>(Oscar). <strong> Each session costs $1,350, </strong>and I’ll need several.<strong> I’ve been trying to work at least one day a week despite the pain, saving every dollar I can</strong>. My daughter and son are both helping however they can, my son even continues working full time in construction despite his own health issues, just to keep us afloat.

<div><strong>I am ashamed but hopeful as I reach out to my community, friends, and kind strangers for help.</strong> I’ve survived the worst pain imaginable, but now I need your help to heal, to live without constant agony, to rebuild my confidence, and to feel human again.

<div>Hola, mi nombre es Claudia, y jamás imaginé que algún día tendría que escribir algo como esto.

<div>La mañana del 24 de julio de 2025, mi vida cambió para siempre. Estaba en mi cocina, como cualquier otro día, preparando el desayuno. Sin darme cuenta, había dejado una botella de limpiador multiusos cerca de la estufa. Cuando encendí lo que creí que era la perilla correcta, se encendió la equivocada y, en cuestión de segundos, la botella comenzó a calentarse hasta que explotó.

<div>Lo siguiente que recuerdo es que las llamas y los químicos cubrieron mi rostro, cuello y cuerpo. Todavía puedo escuchar el sonido de la explosión y sentir el ardor. De alguna manera, entre el shock y el dolor, corrí directo a la ducha. Mi adrenalina era tan fuerte que no me di cuenta de la gravedad; trataba de apagar los rociadores que se activaron en el apartamento. Pero cuando me vi en el espejo, vi mi piel literalmente derritiéndose. Mi rostro… mi pecho… mis brazos. Perdí el conocimiento.

<div>Mi hijo, que estaba trabajando a solo unas cuadras, llegó antes que los paramédicos. Pensó que ya me había ido. Me levantó y me llevó al hospital más cercano, donde los doctores me trasladon de inmediato al Centro de Trauma del Jackson Memorial, el único hospital preparado para tratar quemaduras tan graves. Más del 50% de mi cuerpo estaba quemado.

<div>Pasé semanas en el hospital sometida a cirugías e injertos de piel sintética. El dolor era indescriptible, pero agradecía estar viva. Cuando los médicos finalmente me enviaron a casa, intenté ser fuerte, pero el dolor era insoportable. En menos de 24 horas colapsé y me llevaron de urgencia a otra clínica. Lamentablemente, las enfermeras allí accidentalmente dañaron mis injertos al limpiar mis heridas, raspando ambas axilas y dejándome gritando de dolor. Fui trasladada de inmediato nuevamente al Jackson.

<div>Después de semanas de tratamiento y recuperación, finalmente pude regresar a casa con mi hija a mi lado todos los días. Ella ha sido mi apoyo, mi cuidadora y mi voz durante todo este proceso.

<div>Ahora, tres meses después, trato de seguir adelante. Mis heridas están sanando, pero mi piel sigue frágil y mi cuerpo aún duele. El siguiente paso en mi recuperación es el tratamiento con láser, una fase crucial para controlar el dolor, reducir las cicatrices y ayudar a que mi piel sane correctamente. Los médicos dicen que es importante empezar ahora para obtener los mejores resultados.

<div>Desafortunadamente, este tratamiento se considera “cosmético” y no está cubierto por mi seguro médico (Oscar). Cada sesión cuesta $1,350 dólares, y necesitaré varias.
