Football has been the Love of my Life since I started playing for the Robbins-Cal Park Eagles (Pop Warner) at the age of 10. It has not always been easy. We never had real practice facilities and often a muddy lot was our only option. I began on the bench and worked my way into the starting lineup, leading my team in sacks. I was never late; I never missed a practice; Even while on the bench, I stayed engaged and cheered for my teammates. The lessons learned there (dedication, determination, and discipline), helped carried me through tough times in life, as well as High School. My first 2 years of High School, I was underplayed and often overlooked. Every practice, I outplayed the person in front of me, however, the coach often chose someone else. I was disappointed, but never discouraged. Just as with Pop Warner, I never missed a practice, was never late, kept up with my studies, and cheered my teammates on. I also took extra time to attend the lower classmen practice to hone my skills, and even assisted the coach in teaching the younger players what I’ve learned.
My Junior year (2017) was my breakout year. I led the team in sacks and led the Defensive Linemen in tackles. I made All-Conference (SSC), as well as received The Defensive Lineman of the Year Award from Richards. My Senior Year (2018), surpassed by far everything I did the prior year. During the off-season, I participated in many camps, keeping my mind focused on the tasks at hand. Not only was I All-Conference (SSC) again, I also was named Honorable Mention on the All-State Team (IHSFCA), leading my team in sacks and tackles, while playing multiple positions. Football has kept me engaged in something I call “positive peer pressure”, despite the pull the streets have on many.
It’s been a long, arduous road; yet, Football has been my constant companion and the love of my life. I am beyond blessed to have been nominated to play in the Blue-Grey High School All-American Bowl at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond J. Stadium on January 5, 2019. This highly selective Bowl gives college recruiters the opportunity to assess my skills against other highly-talented athletes from across the country. Many participants receive scholarships to play at the next level. I humbly ask for your help and financial support. Participating in this distinguished game will help me reach my goal of a higher education while playing College Football. The Blue-Grey All-American Bowl will be attended by many recruiters and nationally televised on ESPN3 at 1:30 CST. I realize this is your hard-earned money and wanted to say, “Your investment in me is appreciated and I will not let you down.”
