After 40 years of waiting, I finally have hope. When I was just 2 years old, a train accident changed my life forever. I survived, but I lost part of my foot. Since that day, I have spent my entire life adapting to a disability that has affected every step I take. While other children ran freely, played sports, danced, and wore whatever shoes they wanted, I learned how to push through pain and keep moving forward. For more than 40 years, I have lived without the prosthetic support my body truly needed. I learned to walk, work, and live independently because I had no other choice. I never wanted my disability to define me, and I worked hard to build a life for myself. 
 
 
 Today, I am 42 years old and work as a hairstylist, a career I truly love. However, being a hairstylist means spending long hours on my feet every single day. After decades of compensating for my missing foot, the strain on my body has become overwhelming. My hips, knees, and back are suffering from years of uneven pressure and movement. What was once manageable has become increasingly painful. The hardest part is knowing that I never stopped searching for help. For decades, I met with doctors and specialists hoping someone could provide a prosthetic solution designed for my specific needs. Time after time, I was told there was nothing available that could truly help me. 
 
 
 After more than 40 years of searching, I finally found a specialist who believes they can help. For the first time in my life, I have real hope that I can receive a prosthetic specifically designed for my needs—one that could help support my body, reduce pain, improve my mobility, and protect my joints from further damage. 
 
 
 Unfortunately, there is one major obstacle. The cost of the prosthetic device is significant. Additional expenses such as fitting, adjustments, medical appointments, and required travel are not included and will increase the total cost. This is not a one-time expense. Prosthetics require ongoing care, adjustments, maintenance, and eventual replacement as the body changes over time. When considering future replacements every few years, along with long-term medical care and support, the total lifetime cost of managing this condition is expected to be substantial. 
 
 
 Even knowing this, I finally have something I never thought I would have again—hope. A chance to stand at work with less pain. A chance to protect my hips and knees from further damage. A chance to wear normal shoes. A chance to move freely without constant strain. A chance to dance again. A chance to be active again. A chance to feel more like myself than I have in decades. 
 
 
 Asking for help does not come easily to me. I have spent my entire life trying to handle this on my own. But after 40 years of waiting, I cannot let this opportunity pass because of financial limitations.
