Help get a good wheelchair(Eng/Ita)
I have fought Crohn's disease since 1985; going on to become a professional bowler. Then in 2008 Rheumatoid Arthritis came into my life, and slowly, moving became so painful at times that I spent half of my waking hours in bed. Now, I have a rare genetic illness, a form of spino-cerebellar ataxia. I tend to fall daily now, which is dangerous since years of prednisone have made my bones brittle. I also have a few other health problems such as tremors and asthma, but they seem trivial. The worst part though is I have always been a doer. I want to still be able to cook for my family, and stroll through the woods with my niece. It is disheartening to tell your niece that I am unable to go down the porch steps unless another adult is there.
I have put it off, perhaps pride, perhaps denial, I do not really know. But 2 weeks ago I accepted the fact that I now need a wheelchair, for mobility and safety.
I know the cost is high, but I need a chair that can quickly raise my legs above my heart, or stand me up. The one I am looking at will even allow outside travel. I also will have to pay for renovations to make our home wheelchair friendly, such as wider doors, ramps, etc. And finally, I hope to find a used van with a chair lift so that I can get out and away from the sickbed that feels like a prison. My insurance might cover part of it, up to 50%, but that is if a specific chair is approved.
I want to enjoy life while I can, and that means getting out of the bed and out of this house.
Any help will help as I do have various health related expenses. It kills me to ask, but I don't have any other choice.
Thank you kindly for at least taking the time to read this.
Many Blessings
