There is a shortage of BSL interpreters in the UK and I can't wait to start signing!

Hi! My name is Yin and I am fundraising for my BSL (all levels) education course.

Earlier this year I was in a situation in which I didn't speak anybody’s language which made me question my abilities to make everyone feel inclusive in any given situation. Yes, I was in a different country but there was also a deaf person in my group and I felt then that it was very necessary to gain the knowledge to communicate and help people from the deaf community.

People in general can understand the feeling of being left out or being treated differently due to race, language barriers, and visible or non-visible disabilities. I certainly have encountered things myself in various situations in life, and I want to improve my communication skills and increase inclusivity and accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This is where my story begins!

I aim to raise approximately up to £12000 for my British Sign Language education.

My taster session on the 17th of April 2024 and I want to enroll in BSL Level 1 from the 13th of May 2024.

All Levels vary in length and in course fees. The higher the Level the longer the duration and the time of studying outside of the course will increase.

The whole education program will take approximately 6 years to complete.

I will continuously update this page with my achievements, the next Level I am taking, and with the appropriate fees to be raised!

All donations will go towards this training program.

What am I doing to help my funding?

Apart from working extra hours, I have also set up a Vinted shop and most of these proceeds are going towards my education fund.

I will continuously update the amount that is left to be raised as I am also working very hard to add any money.

I am going to take my course at Remark! A UK deaf- lead organization for British Sign Language Services and Training.

Not only would I like to use and incorporate BSL in my job as a makeup artist, but I also like to raise awareness and be able to communicate within dance, music and other creative industries alongside any other services.
