Hi there! My name is Kennedy, and I have an exciting adventure to share with you. I'm part of the amazing Kuumba Kids Dance Performing Arts Program, and guess what? My dance troupe has been invited to participate in a cultural immersion program.
For those unfamiliar with the program, the mission is to provide high-quality arts programming of the African diaspora that is inclusive, accessible, and affordable for all, allowing students ages 4-18 to have a safe space for freedom of expression and to be seen and heard.
The Kuumba Kids Take Barbados program offers a 7-day cultural immersion experience in Barbados next July during Crop Over Season. This season marks the end of the Sugar Cane harvest and is celebrated with a 3-month long festival featuring music, arts, food, and culture. During this time, students in grades K-5 will participate in Junior Kadooment (grand parade), and attend dance workshops with three elite dance studios.
Our team has been practicing tirelessly, perfecting our moves and creating a performance that will leave everyone in awe. From hip-hop to contemporary, we've got it all covered. But getting to Barbados isn't just about dancing; it's about experiencing a new culture, making new friends, and showcasing our talent internationally.
This is where you come in! By supporting me, you're not just helping me get to Barbados; you're becoming a part of this incredible journey. Your contribution will go towards travel expenses, costumes, and everything I need to shine on that stage.
So, will you join me in making this dream a reality? Let's dance our way to Barbados together! Thank you for your support and for believing in the power of dreams and dance.
