Hi! I’m reaching out to ask for your support for my friend Max in his research of an innovative headless electric guitar. Here's what Max writes about his passion project:
“For decades guitarists have struggled with a multitude of problems such as a limiting bend in the left wrist, weak support for the right arm, harsh contour edges, no angle adjustment - all of which causes bad posture developing chronic pain throughout the body.
My guitar concept aims to bring change to all such issues and integrates the best features of many uncommon designs while keeping retail value under $1000. These are the traits of a truly modern guitar I dream to produce:
- Carbon fiber neck with adjustable angle
- Dedicated armrest for the the right arm
- Aluminum frame and carbon fiber panels
- Shape that truly conforms to a player's body
To iterate over the various designs I need to start making prototypes to assess fit and function of the parts. The most cost effective way to do that would be to purchase an inexpensive 3D-printer and produce the parts myself. This will require a budget of €350 structured as follows:
- €250 for Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D-printer
- €60 for spools of plastic filament
- €40 for various guitar parts
For a possible stretch goal of €500, I would also be able to manufacture structural parts from aluminum, custom order headless tuners of my own design and purchase more filament for further prototyping.”
Max has a condition called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), which manifests as a profound lack of energy on a cellular level resulting in very low strength and stamina. He spends 80% of the time in bed unable to stand up for long and hasn't left his apartment on his own in more than 4 years. As a consequence, he's unable to hold a job and earn a living.
However, there's real hope as scientists from Stanford and OMF are conducting very promising research on underlying causes of ME/CFS (long-Covid). Max strongly believes they will crack this problem sooner rather than later - that's why he is so eager to start working on his guitar project as early as he can, with your help.
Thank you for considering this fundraiser!
