I am Dawn, the first-time grandma to this amazing almost 9-month-old little boy named Maverick. At 3 months old, Maverick had an unexplained rash on his body. At 7 months old, he developed a lump on his head, and at 8 months, the lump had grown. My daughter and her husband had an ultrasound and MRI done. That changed everything. Maverick had a tumor and needed surgery. The biopsy came back, and it was cancer. On top of that devastating news, there was more. Maverick has a rare blood disease called Langerhans cell histiocytosis. This disease is the reason for the rash and the development of the cancerous tumor.
After researching the disease and consulting specialists in Texas, Maverick's young parents are faced with the fact that Maverick will need chemotherapy and further testing due to the fact that the cancer is presenting on his skin.
As a mother and new grandmother, I am devastated for my child, son-in-law, and grandchild. This should be the happiest time of their lives. Instead, they have unanswered questions and medical bills stacking up with more to come.
I am asking for help to ensure my grandson gets the best possible care available, and what is not used for medical bills will be donated to LCH research.
