Hello! I'm Mattie. You might know me through my company Toxic Femme, where I design and sell queer, trans and non-binary themed apparel. You might also see me walking dogs around West Philly as a professional dog walker.
Running Toxic Femme and walking dogs has enabled to me to make it through the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown doing two things I love. However, my persistent gender dysphoria has caused me immeasurable distress and depression for years now, and it's clear that my jobs in the gig economy, which I do love, just aren't sufficient to cover my medical needs.
I'm raising money to help cover the cost of a much needed gender-affirming surgery. Even though the accepted scientific/medical consensus is that gender-affirming treatment is medically necessary for the treatment of dysphoria in trans/non-binary people, most health insurance policies (including mine) still refuse to cover trans-related medical treatments.
The money I raise here will go directly to paying my medical expenses. I'm planning on having the procedure done in the late spring or early summer of 2021, assuming the finances line up.
I'll be taking out loans and emptying my (modest) savings account to make this leap of faith towards a better life, and anything you're willing to throw my way would be so enormously appreciated.
