I'm Matthew, I currently work as a server at a sushi/Thai restaurant in Raleigh. While I was at work a little after 4pm, my Hyundai Elantra was broken into by two kids in what I believe was a "Kia challenge" trend-inspired theft attempt. The cover to the driver door keyhole was pried off, the back passenger window was busted, and the contents of the console and glove box and trunk were rummaged and scattered. The steering column was taken off and the ignition was pulled out in an attempt to USB-hotwire the car and drive off. Other exterior damage is apparent but uncertain if directly related.
The preliminary damage estimate is over $1000 and since the culprits were kids it's unlikely anything will be done or their parents held responsible. I'm just looking for assistance covering the $500 deductible and anything else I may have to unexpectedly incur if insurance doesn't cover it.
