Help Marvin Hahn’s Stroke Recovery

On September 5th, 2018, our father, Marvin Hahn, suffered a massive stroke resulting from a large clot in his brain. He was transferred to La Crosse where he had surgery that night to remove a portion of his skull to allow more room for his brain to swell. While he is talking fairly clear and was able to progress from a feeding tube to soft foods a couple of days ago, he is still unable to move the left side of his body. His vision has also been affected on that side. At this point, Marvin is unable to return home and will need many months of rehab in a nursing home facility, with no promises of how much he will be able to recover. The hospital is ready to transfer him so he can begin getting the therapy he needs. Although our parents have health insurance, unfortunately it does not cover long term care, something they never expected to need at this point in their lives. The nursing home cost for just one month is $8,500 which does not even include the additional cost of therapy. He will also need another surgery in about 3 months to have a plate put in his head. Marvin was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2016 and has been cancer free since February 2017. After spending many years on the road as a truck driver, Marvin was just about to begin a new job which would allow him to spend more time at home with his family and 4 grandchildren. It is uncertain when or if he will be able to return to work. Our parents do not like asking for help, but at this point they are down to one income with outrageous nursing home fees, hospital and ambulance bills already coming in, and possible home renovations needed in the future to make their home more accessible. I have witnessed my parents generosity many times in my life, whether it was giving a helping hand to friends and family, helping the community, or opening their homes or wallets to others in need. I know they would give the shirt off their backs if someone needed it more than them. While this will not cover all their expenses, we hope that whatever money we raise can help take a little bit of the financial burden off their shoulders. If anyone can afford to help in any way, big or small, it would be appreciated more than words can express.
