The Gonzalez Family Hope Page

This year has been challenging for most of us, but it has been one of the hardest years for the Gonzalez family. Jaime Gonzalez has been hospitalized with Covid for 80 days and is still on the road to recovery. His children Leilani and Darian are students at my school and have gone through more than any child should go through at their age due to his illness.

Jaime's health took a turn for the worse in the early stages of his illness and his family didn't think he would make it. Darian and Leilani's oldest brother Jesus saw a case on the internet about a woman with the same situation as his dad. He presented the case to the doctors and decided to give it a try. The doctors didn't think it would work because his health wasn't improving. Jesus told them to give it a try and if it didn't work for his dad, it could possibly save someone else's life.

The doctors started Jaime on a very strong dose of steroids to help his lungs. He received a tracheostomy surgery which helped him start to breathe on his own for over two hours.

The children's mother Martha said the very next morning the doctors had Jaime sitting in his bed, awake, and following directions. She said he was moving his hands and feet. When they asked him something he slightly nodded his head and blinked his eyes.

She said the doctors were shocked by his situation and they are hoping that he continues to improve with this treatment. She also said that doctors from different hospitals have been very interested in his case because most people who have been in his situation and on the machine he was connected to don't make it past 6 weeks.

Jaime has been in critical condition for 80 days now. His wife can't work because she needs to be at the hospital with him. Their son Jesus had covid and can no longer work his hard labor job due to difficulty breathing.

Jaime's story is truly one of strength, unity, and bravery. His family has been put through a lot and could use your help. The family would benefit from any kind of donation you could give to help pay Jamie's medical bills and day to day living expenses.

Leilani and Darian are able to visit their dad on a weekly basis now, and they look forward to the day their dad can come home.
