On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, a powerful windstorm swept through the Puget Sound Region, forever changing the life of Mark Bunton. While Mark was sleeping in his park model trailer, a 70-foot-long Redwood tree crashed down, completely destroying his home and pinning his legs under the rubble. It took first responders over two and a half hours to free him from the wreckage, and he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center. Miraculously, Mark survived with only a broken left leg, but his journey to recovery is just beginning.

 After spending a week in the hospital, Mark now faces enormous challenges. He has been left with significant medical bills that Medicare will not cover, and he lost all of his belongings—furniture, electronics, appliances, clothes, and more. As a 70-year-old widower with no children, Mark had been supplementing his Social Security and small pension with a part-time job, but he will be unable to work for at least three months. He also faces the additional expenses of physical therapy and mobility device rental, and will eventually need to find a new place to live after recovering at his sister's home.

Although you won't hear him complain, his world has been turned upside down, and he now faces the daunting tasks of physical recovery, finding a new home, and coping with the trauma of this near-death experience.
