Help Maria Provide Medical Care for her Parents!

Our compañera Maria Corina, after not having been back to Mexico in 25 years, decided last week to travel to visit her elderly parents (ages 92 and 80). Maria's parents live in the rural town of Michoacán in Mexico, where the majority of the people there are elderly.

Unfortunately, when Maria arrived she found both her parents ill with COVID-19 and Dengue (a sickness transmitted from mosquito bite).  Maria had no choice but to place her mother in a private hospital where the expense for her care reaches approximately $2,000 US per day.

Maria, who is a single mother living in Chicago for over 17 years, has been an active member of the Chicago community. She has organized several community initiatives, including 'Know Your Rights' cards for fellow immigrants, working to help survivors of violence at the work place, and leading programs around healing work.

As an important member of our Chicago immigrant community, we ask for your support in donations to help us reach our goal of $10,000 US - the total amount that it will cost to care for Maria's elderly parents in the hospital for a week.

With your support we can show what community care for our people looks like here and abroad!
