They are valued members of their church and workplace communities. Friends describe Nicolás as a hardworking person who, above all, loves and cares for his family. A coworker, Mario*, describes Nicolás as “the kind of guy who makes work more enjoyable. He always shows up happy to work.” The family relies on Nicolás’ income to make ends meet.

Their 2 daughters have stepped up to play a vital role in supporting their mother and younger brother. Paloma*, age 16, aspires to one day become an immigration lawyer to help dismantle the injustices that have ravaged her family and the community. Elías*, age 6, is trying to be brave amidst his fears, comforting his mother when she cries over the situation.
