<div>Nicolás was on his way to work on a recent Saturday morning when he was detained. Nicolás arrived in the United States over 20 years ago. The family is very close and does everything together. They are valued members of their church and workplace communities. Friends describe Nicolás as a hardworking person who, above all, loves and cares for his family. A coworker, Mario*, describes Nicolás as “the kind of guy who makes work more enjoyable. He always shows up happy to work.” The family relies on Nicolás’ income to make ends meet.

<div>Margarita and children are now left in fear and heartache as they navigate life without him and this tragedy. Their 2 daughters have stepped up to play a vital role in supporting their mother and younger brother. Paloma*, age 16, aspires to one day become an immigration lawyer to help dismantle the injustices that have ravaged her family and the community. Elías*, age 6, is trying to be brave amidst his fears, comforting his mother when she cries over the situation.

Sus dos hijas han asumido un papel fundamental apoyando a su mamá y a su hermanito. Paloma*, de 16 años, sueña con convertirse algún día en abogada de inmigración para ayudar a combatir las injusticias que han afectado profundamente a su familia y a su comunidad. Elías*, de 6 años, intenta ser valiente a pesar de sus temores y consuela a su mamá cuando llora por lo sucedido.
