Doveva tornare a Rimini tra pochi giorni. "Lui e la sua compagna aspettavano soltanto di avere il visto per lei, per partire dalla Thailandia", racconta la madre. Invece Marco Giannini è ricoverato in un ospedale di Phuket per le gravi ferite e traumi riportati in un incidente stradale. Il giovane riminese, 32 anni, è in terapia intensiva. "E’ uscito dal coma, ma le sue condizioni sono ancora molto gravi, ha già subito alcuni interventi chirurgici e dovrà sottoporsi ad altre operazioni", raccontano gli amici riminesi che vivono in Thailandia. Sono stati loro ad avvisare la famiglia dell’incidente e a lanciare una raccolta fondi a favore di Marco, in queste ore. Si perché in questa triste vicenda c’è un dramma nel dramma, come rivela la stessa madre del ragazzo, Paola Leoni. "Purtroppo in Thailandia la sanità funziona in maniera diversa rispetto all’Italia. E se non hai un’assicurazione sanitaria, la maggior parte delle terapie e degli interventi chirurgici è a pagamento".

Da anni vive in Thailandia, e gestisce insieme alla sua ragazza (che è thailandese) un resort con bungalow a Rawai, una delle località turistiche più belle sull’isola di Phuket. "Di solito in estate tornava a Rimini, ma stavolta a causa della pandemia non ce l’aveva fatta – racconta la madre – E’ rimasto più a lungo, nel frattempo è scaduta l’assicurazione sanitaria e abbiamo provato in tutti i modi a rinnovarla. Ma non c’è stato nulla da fare". Nel frattempo Marco e la compagna, che è incinta, avevano deciso di lasciare la Thailandia e tornare in Italia per far nascere a Rimini il loro figlio. "Avevano pianificato il loro ritorno per il mese di gennaio, lei aveva già completato le procedure per ottenere il visto dalle autorità thailandesi e presto l’avrebbe ricevuto. Sarebbero partiti a breve, tra pochi giorni".
Familiari e amici di Marco non vedevano l’ora di riabbracciarlo, ma il destino ha mandato tutto all’aria. Lunedì sera il giovane riminese ha avuto un grave incidente stradale, in motorino. Per un paio di giorni è rimasto in coma, tuttora le sue condizioni sono gravi e dovrà restare ricoverato ancora per tanto tempo. Al dramma che gli è capitato se ne è aggiunto un altro: essendo privo dell’assicurazione medica, la famiglia dovrà pagare quasi tutti gli interventi. La sua fidanzata e gli amici riminesi che abitano a Phuket si sono immediatamente attivati, anche presso l’ambasciata italiana, che ha permesso di garantire subito le cure urgenti. Ma le terapie e le future operazioni andranno comunque pagate, e sono molto costose. "Ieri mattina – racconta ancora sua madre – abbiamo fatto un bonifico di 8.500 euro. Lunedì Marco sarà operato al naso e alla fronte, l’ospedale ha chiesto un anticipo per garantire l’operazione. E serviranno tanti altri soldi per andare avanti con le cure".
Per aiutare i familiari di Marco a fronteggiare le spese sanitarie, gli amici hanno lanciato una colletta. Una raccolta fondi partita in queste ore, avviata sia tra gli amici che abitano in Thailandia, sia tra quelli che vivono qui a Rimini. [..] "Gli amici stanno facendo davvero tanto per Marco – dice la madre – ci stanno aiutando in tutto.
