My name is Alexandra, and I am a volunteer for Feral Cats of East Windsor. I decided to medically foster and then permanently adopt one of our sweet babies - a darling, kind orange boy named Maple, who has already been through so much. Maple is FIV positive, but he has the gentlest spirit and a will to live.

A couple of weeks ago, Maple came down with an upper respiratory infection. At first he seemed to rally, but suddenly he took a turn for the worse—he stopped eating and drinking, and I had to rush him to the vet. He was treated with antibiotics, sub-Q fluids, and medication for coccidia, and I brought him home with extra fluids to keep him comfortable.

Unfortunately, overnight his condition declined again. Maple became lethargic, and when I rushed him back to the vet, his blood sugar was dangerously low. He is now hospitalized and fighting for his life. He is currently stable, thank goodness, and the vet believes he has a good chance at recovery. The vet team believes he will need 2–3 days in the hospital to stabilize, receive IV fluids, antibiotics, and supportive care.

As his new mom, I am taking on Maple’s bills personally. His hospitalization and treatment costs are estimated at $3000-$4000. This is a heavy burden, but Maple deserves every chance to recover and live the safe, loved life he should have had all along.
